A bit late to the game, but as a musician, I always enjoyed his work. Since both Josef Zawinul and Jaco Pastorius also passed, this makes drummer Peter Erskine the last remaining member of the 1978-1980 edition of the Jazz Fusion group Weather Report

The best thing about Shorter's playing is that he understood negative space instead of just noodling away.
