Let me clear the air

So you’re saying there’s a lot of people out there who are trying to get manufacturing jobs and are being turned away?

Is that actually what you’re saying?

Yes. Lots of available workers and few unfilled jobs.

Of course it's risky. But if we don't do that, we lose our entire nation. We are already awash in debt, and we produce barely nothing. It's unsustainable
"barely nothing"?
????????????????

Does that mean we can't be again? I don't understand.

The word is not the same as it was in the 70's and 80's.

Everything is being moved toward AI and robotics.

As I've posted a few times on other threads, Elon openly stated that a lot of people are going to be out of jobs, because there are going to be fewer and fewer jobs that AI can't do better.

And I don't want to be a buzz kill, but I think as times goes by, it's just going to get worse.

But I'm not. My version of conservatism has long since died out it seems.

I don't think so. But I'm not sure what your views are on the issues... like foreign policy, spending, economics, the monetary policy, etc.

Right. And that's the problem. They have you so freaked out over an emergency, that you're ready to give up on the most important principles of our democracy.

You hit the nail on the head with that one.

I'm not weak, but I am gay. So there's that.

This whole thing about tariffs and deporting college kids. Tariffs are tantamount to bullying. It's brutish. It doesn't suit the current macroeconomic dynamic.

Deporting college kids for protesting (if that's indeed all they did). This disregard for First Amendment rights.

Deporting anyone with suspected ties to TdA/MS-13. We already have one example of a mistake being made. Obey proper procedure and due process, I don't see that happening.

And all the executive orders. If he would obey the Constitution when crafting them, I wouldn't have a problem. But all these lawsuits (agenda driven or not) shows me he is not adhering to the Constitution. There's a way we do things, and he's seemingly blowing past that. There are things only Congress can do that he's assumed he can do with Executive Power.

But that's it. I support his border policy for the most part.
I don't know if you are an American. If you are, do you support what DOGE is trying to do?

Foreign Policy: Project power, make peace. Speak softly, carry big stick.
Spending: Cut it. Naturally.
Monetary Policy: Deregulate if possible.
Economics: Keep the economy stable, do things to strengthen and expand it without causing chaos in people's finances.

My being American does not rest on whether I support DOGE or not.

I personally think there is a conflict of interest between Musk's Dogecoin and his leadership of DOGE. It doesn't project a good image.

So you think the WORLD'S richest man is taking on all this responsibility and danger to himself, his businesses and his family to make more money?

Thanks. I was trying to figure out what type of conservative you are...:) But in any event, please don't think that USMB is representative of the general public. There are actually LOTS of non-MAGA conservatives and classical liberal / small l libertarians out there. There's a lot on x... which is where I've been spending time lately. We're all feeling "politically homeless" right now.

So you don't think Musk is leading DOGE to make himself wealthier yet you think there is some conflict of interest since he promotes DOGECOIN. What is the conflict of interest then?
The acronym, DOGE.

It's a clever act of promoting a product and giving it notoriety through naming a governmental entity the same thing. However, it's a conflict. I don't agree with using a governmental agency to promote a product or service that the government doesn't provide on it's own.

That's the problem? You may be fixated on something that isn't significant, especially considering the magnitude of what DOGE is taking on.
