Republicans continue to push the idea that this is a center-right country and that Americans have swooned for GOP anti-government posturing all these years, but the real electoral bait has been anger, recrimination and scapegoating.

Patently false... The simple fact is that the United States IS a right wing nation... where 'right-wing' is defined as proponents of individual liberty, accountability and rests upon the principles on which the US was founded.

That's why John McCain kept describing Barack Obama as some sort of alien and why Palin, taking a page right out of the McCarthy playbook, kept pushing Obama's relationship with onetime radical William Ayers.

John McCain did everything but blow Hussein on national relevision... McCain stated hundreds of times that Hussein was a 'great guy' a 'patriotic American' and 'honorable man' and many other glowing recognitions of the Marxist Muslim anti-American subversive. Sarah Palin merely noted the INCONTESTABLE FACT that Hussein's political career was founded upon the backs of Marxist terrorists such as Bill Ayers...

And that is also why the Republican Party, despite the recent failure of McCarthyism, is likely to keep moving rightward, appeasing its more extreme elements and stoking their grievances for some time to come.

Yep, and that's one of the reasons he lost. The message of his campaign was not what leadership quality he could bring to America to make America better...it was Obama's a terrorist and only part of the country is "real" America. It worked well for Bush but backfired on McCain, for many reasons but in part because people perceived him as a straight shooter and it was an embarrassment to see him acting like a GOP clone.

That's exactly right. I laugh everytime the republicans say that their Party lost because the media threw the election to Obama, or that Obama cheated to win.

I'm cool with it, if they never want to own up to the responsibility of their own failures. The most disasterous and poorly run war arguably in american history, and the biggest financial meltdown since the great depression happened on their watch. But, they're trying to blame liberals for "undermining" their hero George Dumbya Bush, and their trying to blame poor people and brown people for the mortgage meltdown. Liberals didn't "undermine" Bush. Bush's policies undermined Bush. And his minions were cheering him on the whole way. Liberals just pointed out for 7 years that bush was fucking up. Precious little of their anger is directed at the wall street tycoons, and the "free markets, no regulations" republicans who stood on watch when this happened.

Shit man, George Bush just gave an interview in which he basically tried to dodge responsibility for his failures. "Bad intelligence", forced him to invade iraq, and the financial meltdown is largely the fault of Bill Clinton.
