So tariffs bring jobs back to America.

Glad you agree with Trump.

Trump’s Rationales For His Tariffs Are Incoherent And Contradict Each Other

Bring back manufacturing? Raise revenue? Negotiate with every country in the world?

Trump and his economic team justified last week’s tariffs with multiple conflicting explanations that, when considered together, make no sense at all.

The administration wants the public to believe three different things, all of which are in tension. First, Trump’s tariffs are designed to launch a renaissance for American manufacturing replaced by overseas imports, bringing back long lost working class jobs and reinvigorating the blue collar middle class. Second, that the tariffs are meant to raise massive amounts of revenue. And third, the purpose is to use the tariffs as pressure on foreign nations to renegotiate trade deals with the U.S.

These ideas separately may make varying levels of sense, but put together they make zero sense. Each is in conflict with the other. It can either be one thing or the other thing, but not all three things or even two out of three.

But since “Liberation Day,” the administration has flailed from one rationale to another, often with the administration openly contradicting itself within the hour. On Sunday White House trade adviser Peter Navarro declared: “This is not a negotiation.” Hours later, Trump boasted online that Japanese Prime Minister is sending a top team to negotiate!.

They are also going to China, fool.

China was already having troubles with the rest of the world. Countries wanted to do business with us not China before this. Yesterday I heard Japan and South Korea are now reaching out to China to do business with them rather than Trump. Trump is pushing customers into China's arms.

I heard Trump's excuse for not tariff'ing Russia was that we were negotiating peace deal with them and now would not be the right time. But then it turns out Ukraine did get slapped with tariffs. LOL. So fucking obvious.
bobo china is japans biggest trading partner, not the US....they already do lots of business with them....

All that matters to Japan and others when dealing with American tariffs is exports.

See below the most recent data. America is still their greatest export location and this is high profit margins for corporations via vehicles where pressure against the government to make a deal with the U.S will be high.

The article will not age well as China is backing away from it's threat for higher tariffs and the EU is now urging China to lower tariffs it raised.

I'll hold my breath for a retraction....

Trump tariffs based on massive error, conservative think tank says

The formula used by the Trump administration to levy reciprocal tariffs contains a serious math error that over-inflates the impact by about a factor of four, economists at the American Enterprise Institute said.
Why it matters: The conservative think tank says the error led to tariff rates massively higher than they should have been to achieve the goals the administration sought.

Catch up quick: After announcing the tariffs last Wednesday the Trump administration released a complicated-looking formula, which it said was developed with the Council of Economic Advisers, used to determine how to set the rates.

  • It turns out the formula is simply the U.S. trade deficit with each country, divided by the value of the goods the U.S. imports from that country.
  • Two other variables in the equation cancel each other out, rendering them effectively meaningless.
Yes, but: AEI's economists Kevin Corinth and Stan Veuger say they shouldn't cancel each other out, because Trump's team used the wrong level for one of them.

Who would have guessed?

I don't want tariffs to be applied to Canada, I supported Trump as I wanted him to confront China, which he has and each day he seems more determined to get the trillions back, he can if he gets the U.S citizen on board.

If I were him I would hold a press conference and outline the data on how biased it is. All on teleprompter. A serious outreach to the world about Chinas economic (and otherwise) abuses.

The issue for me and Canada is one I try to separate from good conscience. I have every reason to be bitter and I am due to the injustices I have experienced and continue to experience. I love my country and the ideals, however, the reality is the abusers just abuse without accountability. It is they who hate me and my belief in freedom.

I digress. As a pertinent strategy, I don't think Canada should be the target. Mexico, yes. China, absolutely and most critical by far. Canada, some tweaking and demands would most certainly work, especially if the U.S leaned on Canada to actually support civil liberties and not spit on the sacrifices so many made for them to exist.

I suppose this is part of his greater strategy as Canada has definitely not been a good ally in many respects and they should be forced to decide "capitalism and civil liberties which America will support or socialism and a disregard of human rights and America MUST, for it's own interests, reciprocate". Trump can drag us to capitalism and freedom. Canadians would LOVE to be protected by the U.S Constitution I assure you.

The trade deal should be honoured and this in regards to operating with Canada seems to be a pressure tactic. It's clear that the negotiation in 2026 is going to be a very difficult one. I would prefer a CLOSER economic relationship and an easier path for Canadians to become American citizens while both nations profiting from more economic activity.

The EU has a genuine trading bloc. Why not America and Canada (I would exclude Mexico)?
This link shows the charts that show the tariffs other charge the USA and how Trump wishes to reciprocate.

Trump tariffs push major U.S. trade partners closer to China

Von der Leyen and Chinese Premier Li Qiang held “constructive” talks today that touch on a possible mechanism for trade diversion in the wake of sweeping levies announced by the world’s first economy.

“In response to the widespread disruption caused by the US tariffs, President von der Leyen stressed the responsibility of Europe and China, as two of world’s largest markets, to support a strong reformed trading system, free, fair and founded on a level playing field,” according to an EU readout, which added that von der Leyen called for a “negotiated resolution to the current situation” that avoids escalation.

“The leaders discussed setting up a mechanism for tracking possible trade diversion and ensuring any developments are duly addressed,” the readout said.

Speculation has been mounting whether Trump’s protectionist agenda will push U.S. trade partners toward China in a bid to redress commercial relations.

Making China great again.
Try to keep in mind that opening posts require a minimum of two sentences of your opinion per the forum rules. I'll let this one slide this time.

China will not consume EU products. They will allow them to manufacture there and then steal their technology though as they did to German auto companies. They flooded them with cheap EV vehicles.

We need America to win. We need the West to win.
EU is looking to buy from China.

Did you know other countries won't eat our beef and chicken? Like RFK Jr knows, they know our shit is poison. And Trump wants to force our beef on to the rest of the world? We have millions of dead chickens to sell China. LOL

Let the EU buy from China. It's difficult to buy stuff when you don't have a place to go to work.

I'm not a protectionist against fair traders with fair policies, but China is a vulture and the world has known this for years. The WTO never cared. It's time to care.

It's not just China, Japan and South Korea. It's not just Canada. It's EVERYONE looking to replace the USA because they don't like Trump

Canada is actively seeking to diversify its trade partnerships beyond its traditional reliance on the United States, aiming to strengthen its global economic resilience and reduce dependence on a single market.

Look at what not liking Elon has done to Tesler. Same thing is happening to USA. You must love this secretly. LOL.

You're a f****** idiot you know dick about the Chinese market they're panicking again

Overcapacity has been a problem for china for Years now
Domestic consumption never materialized how they wanted it to
15 years ago they were supposed to be less reliant on exports to the US today
It never materialized

The world is already saturated in Chinese crap and they'll be forced to the negotiating table...
Because the world is not going to absorb what the Chinese export to the fUSA..
Even the Chinese know this

you left wingers are never right about anything
You're ignorance and stupidity make me sick
Kill yourself you f****** dumb commie cocksmoker

Yeah, Canada is part of CETA, and Europe looks down at our products, exporting MORE to us but importing less. Peculiar huh, especially since Canada said that because of Americas market size of course they will accept more Canadian products. How come that isn't applied to Europe then?

We created a trade agreement with them when Freedland literally cried publicly to pressure the EU who didn't sign the agreement. It was embarrassing to me quite frankly but it seemed to work

Unfortunately, the deal didnt help us export product, similar to TPP where we just LOST 10s of thousands of jobs and they dont buy our stuff.

/----/ So? They need us more than we need them.
Do they?

I know we owe China a shit ton of money. I predicted Trump would take the US into bankruptsy which would mean 20% cuts to social security AND renigging on China. Paying them pennies on the dollar for what we owe them. I wouldn't put it past Trump. AND, maybe he would take on the bankers. The Federal Reserve. Do you know the interest on the debt we pay? Trump could just tell those bankers to fuck off on that. Pay them half. Re negotiate.

Japan's biggest trading partner, in terms of both exports and imports, is China, followed by the United States.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • China:
Japan's largest export destination and a significant source of imports.

  • United States:
The second-largest trading partner, with substantial trade flows in both directions.

  • Other Important Trading Partners:
South Korea, Australia, and Hong Kong also play significant roles in Japan's international trade.

  • Trade Balance:
While China is a major trading partner, Japan has a trade surplus with countries like Australia, and a trade deficit with the United States.
