I'm a U.S. Veteran but I haven't necessarily "done things that haunt me at night". That seems like more of an indictment than praise.
didn't realize the meme had your name on it. I retired from the military almost 35 years ago, and everything on that list doesn't fit me either.

but it DOES fit a LOT of vets.

The meme in the OP obviously is referencing combat vets.

If the see a building is on fire, my initial reaction is to back away. Firefighters, by contrast, head toward the danger.

If gunfire erupts near me, I will most likely duck for cover and seek to get the fuck out of the danger zone. Cops, instead, tend to move toward it.

And when some fucking enemy is attacking our people or our interests, most people seek shelter. Our military, again, looks to eradicate the danger.

I don’t give be a shit if a man or a woman in uniform is a REMF, for that matter. If hostilities break out, these people don’t wait to get drafted. They’re already AT the ready. They accept such risks.

Let’s get real: they signed up for the risks. And I applaud all of them for that.

The sentence is at the top of the list. That implies it's importance. You could say that combat Vets might be haunted in dreams by the things they have seen or experienced but the words "the things that they have done" implies guilt. It's a smarmy little guilt trip put on Vets by the smarmy left that pretends to support them.

No question that our military makes great sacrifices on behalf of our country. They deploy all around the world on behalf of US interests.

In spite of the decades old claims that these deployments “keep us safe” and “keep us free”
Our safety or freedom is not challenged by military conflicts half a globe away.

Our country has not been invaded in over 200 years
There is no country on earth capable of taking away our freedom or jeopardizing the safety of the American public

Justified or not, our military deployments are done to protect our economic, strategic and political interests

When were we invaded in WW2
While in general you are correct, WWII was due to an existential threat to the US, and involved multiple attacks on US territory. Pearl Harbor, Wake Island, Guam. Germany was an existential threat.

other attacks on US territory:
911 was an attack on US territory.
Pancho Villa invaded US territory.
And of course, we cannot forget the horror of the Cola Wars.
