Van down by the river
and he really can pull on a walk. I bought one of those retractable 25 foot leashes, and it works pretty well and I like it except for that sudden stop. I think I could put a snap on some 130# mono and run him on a 6/0 standup rod I have, that way I'd have some drag and he could make a run for it. He's already put me on my ass in the snow, and I'm too old for that.

Beautiful dogs, but they are crazy! It would be nice to find a dog park with they’re allowed to run freeI

I'm a bad man because I like this a little too much. 😆
I got this old shark reel n rod, and I'll get some 80 lb test and..

I've a flutter toy on the end of my 6 foot Cherrywood ...

The dog needs training ... it's easy and it sounds like you have the time ... there's books ... but keep it simple ... "come", "stay", "basket" ... take your 12-guage out with you on your walkies so the dog gets used to the noise ...

That's a bird dog ... you need to take it out birding ...

I was going to post the same thing. They are top class all around hunting dog. Proper training is the key because they have a lot of energy to burn off.

If you have a treadmill, put him on it.

I'd like to get one for my Mini Aussie. She has been impossible to socialize, beyond letting her run the fence with the pits next door, and she has no leash manners. Thank God I have a large fenced backyard where she can run to her heart's content. I hope it's enough for her size.

Beautiful Weim! They're stunning!

That's a herding dog ... buy her a flock of sheep and your troubles are over ...

He definitely knows how to work a trail and sneak up and point, although I thought they were flushing dogs. He's scared to death of noises like firecrackers and thunder. We live 5 miles from Quantico and he goes completely nuts when they are bombing, so you won't be hunting unless you are good with a bow. Fred Bear was that good. Very smart dog.

Has the dog had any leash training?

I know some sheep farmers, and I've considered asking them if I can bring her out to turn her loose and see. They are probably close enough that she can smell their sheep, along with lots of cows, when the wind is westerly.

Yeah, he's 10 years old and listens pretty well. He's been through training but I think I kind of spoil him because I like animals, He has a shock collar when we go in the woods, and he really respects that, and the vibration is enough to heel.

How familiar is he with the area where you walk him, is there something setting him off?

You need a good Leerburg leather leash and a proper training collar for a dog like that.

You have no control over him with one of those retractable things.

Well. Not you, per se, since you're only keeping him for a bit, but that's what it is needed in general.
