NFL s Jaguars Apologize for Mascot s Ebola Sign

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- They didn't need the Terrible Towel, but it did take a late defensive touchdown for the Pittsburgh Steelers to seal Sunday's road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But that didn't stop Jaguars mascot Jaxson de Ville from showing Steelers fans and those watching at home exactly what he thought of the team's rally towel as he hoisted a towel prop along with a makeshift sign that said, "TOWELS CARRY EBOLA."

The ill-advised stunt wasn't well-received, particularly by Jaguars President Mark Lamping, as he distanced the team from de Ville's antics on Monday:

"Improvisation and humor have both been key elements to the character of Jaxson DeVille, especially when he performs at home games. On Sunday, the person who has played Jaxson DeVille over the past 20 seasons made an extremely poor decision in that regard. The team was unaware of this inappropriate sign, which was hand-made by Jaxson during the fourth quarter of yesterday's game, until after it had been displayed. We are handling the matter internally and taking it very seriously. We extend our sincerest apologies to anyone who was offended."

Geez! People need to lighten up.
