North Korea is Sending a Clear Message. Is Anyone Listening?

Latest I read was that China cut off coal imports from North Korea which has supposedly (1) reduced the dough North Korea has for such activities and (2) raised the standard of living for North Koreans as they themselves can use the coal to generate electricity. Trump may have helped get the import ban but as of yet nobody has leaked his conversation.

China Suspends Coal Imports From North Korea

"North Korea successfully tests it's first nuclear bomb"

"North Korea successfully tests a missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead."

"North Korea stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S."

"North Korea tests an engine designed for an intercontinental ballistic missile."

"North Korea successfully tests a long range ballistic missile."

"North Korea threatens a preemptive strike against the United States."

North Korea launches multiple missiles at US military bases in the Japan hitting just 200 miles from the mainland."

Is anyone listening?

They've done this before......what? Just a couple of years ago??? I do think they are dangerous just because the Supreme Leader is tired of being out of the human race & wants the world to take him seriously.........but when they threatened & targeted the US before, they couldn't find us on the map :confused-84:
They can certainly find 7 US bases and 50,000 US troops in Japan and 25,000 troops stationed in South Korea. North Korea may be no threat to the US mainland now but that does not mean they are not a threat to the United States in the Pacific.

Agreed, just because they've missed so far doesn't mean they will continue to miss.....Kim reminds me of the kid in the Christmas Story......don't shoot yer eye out. He's like a kid with a new toy & for now is just target shooting......but that's not to say he'll continue to miss. Practice does make perfect....sooner or later
Well, let's hope for a regime change.
North Korea wants recognition, as a nuclear power and as a nation.

I am, and I hear desperate cry for attention and aid concessions.

Yes, a preemptive nuclear strike seems appropriate. Their leader is batshit crazy and needs to be killed before he kills millions in a childish tantrum.

I'm positive there is a boomer in the Pacific with a nuke with Kim Jong's name on it. NK has to know it would be suicide

So, all you lefties want to take this opportunity to apologize to the Ghost of Ronald Reagan for bad mouthing S.D.I.?
The SDI proposal was far too ambitious for it's time. It worked just fine in Star Wars but this was the 1980's and the proven technology it needed was just not there. Extensive R&D would be needed and there was no way to tell how long it might take to develop the components.

The system would have been extremely complex. Not only did the system have to detect when a missile launch occurred, it also had to track the missiles in flight, communicate that information to the weapons poised to shoot down those missiles, and finally, aim and fire those weapons to score directs hit on very fast-moving targets.

To make matters even more complicated, the Soviets could add missile decoys, overwhelm the system by building more ICBMs or even take aim at the defense system itself, incapacitating it before launching a nuclear attack in the first place. And finally, certain technologies were off the table from the start thanks to restrictions outlined in the ABM and Outer Space treaties.
How the Star Wars Program Didn't Work

Yeah except it is working.

Except that other scenarios were discussed from day one.

Except that it has BEEN decades for that extensive R&D.

Except that the Soviets are gone and we arent' talking about thousands of warheads and thousands of decoys.

Except that the ABM and Outer Space Treaties both have provisions for leaving them is we choose.

Except that, thanks to you lefties, we squandered the time we could have spent and now our cities are just as defenseless as they were thirty years ago.

And so once again Reagan is proven right and you lefties wrong.

Just express your regret to the ether, on this screen. He will know.

Likely he will forgive you.

He was always too soft.

Yeah except it is working.
NO. SDI was never fully developed and put into operation. H.W. Bush shifted the focus to a National Defense System and Clinton in 1993 turned it into a region defense system. Although much of the technology in the SDI proposal was eventually developed and found a place in other defense systems over the years, the system Reagan championed was not to be.

Too bad about that huh?

If it was up there, would even a loon like Kim launch something that would just be shoot down and then invite massive retaliation?

Reagan, he did so much, but he was just a man. A great man, true, but we failed to make his dream a reality.

Hopefully LA, won't pay the price.

N.Korea's clear message:

1 - they are the last communist totalitarian oppressive regime on the Earth

2 - they feel impotent compared with S.Korea and the USA

3 - they hate seeing joint US-S.Korean naval maneuvers off their shores

4 - they are defiant.

North Korea wants a peace treaty with the United States as a nuclear weapons state. They want to be recognized as a world military power. In others words, they want to join the club. Secondly, they would like to loosen, if not fracture, US alliances with Seoul and Tokyo, beginning with Seoul. Kim Jong-un will do just about anything to accomplish those goals. The United States can end the hostility by giving in and recognizing North Korea but that would lead to destabilize the balance of power in Southeast Asia.
