They have a hell of a lot more influence on the prices than you realize Beretta. They can approve drilling, open oil reserves, make deals with other nations, etc. In fact, I would say they are responsible for about 80% of where the prices are.

The fact is, Obama has openly admitted that his policies would cause engergy prices to sky rocket because he wants to push people towards green energy (and since the cost of that is in the stratosphere, the only to do it is to make traditional fuels cost just as much).

If the highest debt in US history, the highest period of +8% unemployment in US history, and the highest gas prices in US history aren't enough to get you worried, what is? It takes years to get a well going, and then once you finally get oil out of the ground, it has to get refined. On top of that, the US exports a lot of its oil. The GOP knows this.
