She doesn't need to live in Washington. She can live in a less expensive area outside of the city and commute, just like many Americans already do. There's tons of public transportation available in the region. I realize she won't have a car, because most people in NYC don't.

I don't have any pity for congressional members who complain they can't make ends meet while having some of the highest incomes in the country, and I don't care how expensive it is in the city because they choose not to commute. So I don't favor a housing allowance. But I'd be fine with some kind of pay advance for new members entering Congress.
