The Palestinians have long been charging Israelis with cutting down fruit trees, specificly olives.
First, it is hard to cut down an olive tree. We are talking about hard hard wood.
But, it is specfily forbidden by the Torah in no uncertain terms. None of the fudging you see in a lot of places. Cutting down the friut tree, even of the enemy, even in times of total war, is no fooling forbidden.
