Rather that divert foreign aid money, the Pentagon would rather furlough 800,000 employees.
For instance, Israel gets $3 billion annually and apparently our government feels that Israel is more important to them than their 800,000 employees.


The Pentagon notified Congress on Wednesday it will be furloughing its civilian workforce of 800,000 employees if sequestration goes into effect March 1.

October 3, 2013 – While the federal government shutdown on Oct. 2 put an estimated 800,000 federal workers on furlough – they will return to their taxpayer-funded jobs, with back-pay, when the shutdown ends -- the national unemployment rate is still 7.3% and there are 11.3 million Americans out of work, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In addition, the number of Americans who have decided, for whatever reason, to not participate in the labor force is 90.4 million, a number up nearly 10 million since Barack Obama was inaugurated president in January 2009. The number furloughed, 800,000, is 0.8% of the total number of Americans not even participating in the work force. Under the Obama administration, unemployment in the United States went from 7.8% in January 2009 to a high of 10% in October 2009, which equaled 15.3 million people unemployed.

The unemployment rate then stayed in the 9% and high 8% range until January 2012, when it hit 8.3%; it was back at 7.8% in December 2012. The Bureau of Labor Statistics said there were 155,486,000 people, age 16 and over, who made up the civilian labor force in August. For that month, which is the latest data available, only 144,170,000 were employed in the United States. That difference equals the 11,316,000 unemployed.

As for those people not participating in the labor force, the BLS defines that as people, age 16 or older, who have not sought a job in the last four weeks. That number was 80,507,000 when Obama took office in 2009. It is now 90,473,000, an increase of 9,966,000. The 800,000 people furloughed by the government is 0.8% of those Americans who are not in the labor force.
