I don’t even discuss politics with woke people in the gym anymore. They are angry, petulant, and confused. These are the type of people who saw nothing wrong with experts telling them to strap worthless paper on their faces during a suspicious, evil, mad science, manipulated human pandemic. They just moved on like a religious cult that was told the world would end if they did not listen to the experts that caused the pandemic in the first place. I think the worst among them are the ones in my age group- liberal Boomers. They are just patiently waiting for sensible attempts at bringing the country back to reality to play themselves out so they can get their next set of instructions. These people actually believe the “experts” that have been stealing everything worthwhile from them will save them and lead them to a fantastical perfect world. Their eyes actually glaze when they speak.

The newest rendition of their delusion is that AI was on track to make that perfect world and then Donald Trump came along like a bull in a china shop and tried to go back to old ways where people got control of their destinies. They imagine a world where trucks drive themselves on highways and factories buzz with robots making all the needed things for humans to live lives of leisure and philosophy. You know how they say idle hands do the Devil’s work? Could you have imagined a few generations ago educators carping about the wonders of transhumanism? It would have been good for a laugh, but no one is laughing now.

I don’t know if Trump can save these people because they appear to be permanently damaged.

Did you ever consider others in the gym see you coming and think "Here comes that crazy Trump supporter again."?

I mean, seriously, who goes to the gym and discusses politics? Even discussing politics in polite and familiar settings these days will invariably raise someone's blood pressure, so it really is best avoided, but at the gym? With strangers? ("woke people" are not your friends)

Damn, that's crazy, anyone talking politics to me in the gym and I'm avoiding them completely, that is the absolute last thing I want to hear when working out.

I told one of my daughters about that, so at Christmas she got me headphones to listen to podcasts and music at the gym.

Problem solved!

Yea, I don't like being impersonal at the gym, but music is a motivator, so my earbuds are always in. Podcasts are good for the stationary bike.
