Well, Pulitzer himself was a co-founder of yellow journalism. So nice to see the prize named after him come full circle.

Not that it hasn't been a joke for decades already, but now, Ha!

The Georgia state abortion laws killed Amber Thurman.

{...
Amber Nicole Thurman (September 16, 1993 – August 19, 2022) was a 28-year-old medical assistant who died of septic shock and retained products of conception following a medication abortion. Georgia's maternal mortality committee determined that Thurman's death was preventable and noted that the voluntary delay in performing the dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure significantly contributed to her death.

Background

[edit]
Amber Nicole Thurman was born on September 16, 1993, in Georgia.[1][2] Thurman, a single mother of a young son, and a medical assistant, had become pregnant in 2022 and decided to terminate the pregnancy.[1][2] Georgia's recently enacted abortion law, which prohibited most abortions after six weeks, restricted her ability to access a surgical abortion in the state. By the time her pregnancy was confirmed, she had passed the six-week limit.[2]

In August 2022, Thurman traveled to North Carolina, where abortion remained legal in the first trimester, and received abortion pills, mifepristone and misoprostol.[2][3] After taking the medication, she experienced a rare complication, incomplete expulsion of fetal tissue, which resulted in a severe infection.[2]

On August 19, 2022, Thurman went to Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia, after her symptoms worsened. She showed signs of sepsis, including a high white blood cell count and low blood pressure, which indicated a serious infection.[2][4] Medical guidelines suggest a procedure known as dilation and curettage (D&C) should be performed promptly in such cases to remove the remaining tissue.[2][4] Georgia's new abortion law, which criminalized most abortions after six weeks, included exceptions for life-threatening situations. By the time the procedure was performed twenty hours later, Thurman's condition had deteriorated, and she died that same day. According to her death certificate, Thurman died of septic shock and retained products of conception, a description so rare that the last time it had been cited in Georgia death records was 15 years prior.[2][4][5]

A review by Georgia's maternal mortality committee determined that Thurman's death was preventable and noted that the delay in performing the D&C significantly contributed to her death. Medical experts confirmed that earlier intervention could have improved her chances of survival.[2]

Twitter is not a source of anything other than hate speech.

Had the patient been treated properly when first told that she would die if her pregnancy continued, and given the abortion which would have saved her life, or if she hadn't feared arrest and imprisonment when she first had problems, the woman would be alive today.

The CDC has reported that of the more than 1200 women who have died from the complications of pregnancy and childbirth, 80% could have been saved with proper medical intervention.

"More than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable.

A death is preventable if there was at least some chance it could have been avoided with reasonable changes to patient, family, provider, facility, system, and/or community factors."

There are consequences for this insanity and abuse of women. Doctors are leaving, and women are getting sterilized, because they're AFRAID of getting pregnant and dying.
