Rudy has consistently said he's pro choice. He also does/did not belive in banning partial birth abortions. However, in his defence, he's never been in a position to do much about either. Rudy is considered by most learned people to be moderate.Originally posted by krisy
I know I'm late on this and maybe it was allready discussed, but isn't Giuliani liberal on social issues? I like him,but abortion is a big issue for me. I won't vote pro choice.

Rudy has to be a moderate, that's the only way he could get elected Mayor of New York City. The current "Republican" Mayor Michael Bloomberg is actually a Democrat. He ran in the Republican primary because he thought he could win it easily.
If Rudy is pro-choice he will not get the Republican nomination in 2008 or any other year. The far-right wing of the party, which controls it, won't tolerate anyone on the ticket that isn't militantly anti-choice.

I think you should reevaluate which party is controlled by their lunatic fringe. Im conservative and i could give 2 shits about religious topics such as abortion and gay marriage. While almost anyone has an opinion on those topics. What most average americans care about is keeping the money they earn and the safety of themselves as well as their families safety. That lumps an awful lot of people in there which i doubt could be called the "Far Right Wing".
The left however is being led by socialists such as Ted Kennedy, Terry McCallough and of course, the Clintons. They control the Democratic party and they cater to the far left of the party. What was the lunatic fringe is now the Base of the Democratic party. Why do you think candidates are so adament about saying they hate Bush or that Bush lies in everything they say or do? To appeal to the bloodlust of their lunatic "base".
So your either grouped in with them, aclu (which i beleive by your unquestioned defense of some of the more ridiculous statements made by democrats lately) or you've been alienated in your own party (such as Zell Miller).

The race this year is extremely interesting. My parents are moderate Democrats in the old fashioned sense and they have a major problem with Kerry. Both said they could never consider voting for him, and feel that the party has been hijacked by the extreme leftists. They also can't bring themselves to vote Republican since they hold on to the belief that they are the party of rich old crooked white men. I wonder how many other people find themselves with a similar problem? Since both of the major parties are seen as being extreme by the opposition. I've got 5 months or so to convince them to cross party lines.....
