Not before World War 1, not in World War 1, not between World War 1+2, not in World War 2 and not after World War 2. You are like naughty grandchildren for us. Compare this with the ancient Roman empire: You have 4 times more soldiers per inhabitant of the USA as had the Romans per inhabitant of the Roman Empire - where most people anyway not had been citizens of Rome so they needed a very strong army.

Your army is by the way not so big because of Europe - except that you like to hold under control us Germans. Your army is on serios reasons so big because of Russia. But now exists also a modern Chinese army which is titanic. But up to now the Chinese are more wise. They also follow the Augustinian (Roman) advice to make a big army (you are their example). But you forgot what Augustinus also implemented: an army which no one will use - except on reason of defence = "Have a big strong army - but do not use it". The sense of an army is never to have to be used.

When the USA will leave the NATO the USA will lose a lot of power. The bigger will become the danger the USA will have to use their army.
