A federal judge has ordered HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to allow Sarah Murnaghan, a 10-year-old in Pennsylvania dying of cystic fibrosis, to be moved to the adult lung transplant list. Normally federal policy prevents children younger than 12 from receiving donated adult lungs, but Sebelius has been under pressure to change the policy.

Good for the Judge, he is trying to intervene in the first known case of rationing.

First known case of rationing? Are you people high? Organs have been rationed as long as there have been organ transplants.

Organs have been rationed since the first transplant. Not everyone who wants one gets one. There is a hearing set in ten days.

Will the other three children in this hospital equally as sick get exceptions too?

"Some live, some die."

Please, tell me what was wrong with her statement:

"I would suggest, sir, that, again, this is an incredibly agonizing situation where someone lives and someone dies. The medical evidence and the transplant doctors who are making the rule — and have had the rule in place since 2005 making a delineation between pediatric and adult lungs, because lungs are different that other organs — that it’s based on the survivability [chances].”

Organ transplantation has always been subject to this arbitrary gubmint rationing.

The problem isn't Sebelius -big a heartless dictatorial ghoul that she is- but with the existing system of centralized command and control distribution of transplant organs.

It's too bad
we didn't harvest some number of the 40 million children we killed in the past...keep them in glass coffins...grow their bodies...and now use their organs for transplant requirements...

Im curious what your alternative to the current system would be.

And by "command and control distribution", what you mean is that we don't have an active market for human body parts.

A market for organs, aka the wealth cannibalizing the poor to extend their own lives.

Why not let him speak for himself?

The government is not involved in the determination as to who gets a transplant on any level.

TThe exception is good only for ten days. Legal and medical ethicists are already mounting challenges to this judges ruling. Not because of Sarah, but to stop judges in the future from carving out exceptions when they feel like it.

The point is is very simple.

The ACA will amplify this throughout the system....

We have both Left and Right in this thread agreeing its happening in this case...NOBODY gets to argue that it isn't going to happen MUCH more starting next year.

It's been happening for over 50 years. The idea that the ACA is going to cause some increase has no basis in reality.

It absolutely does, it is modeled after the NHS, welcome to the new world.

ORLY?

Who does make the determinations?...Who writes and enforces the rules they go by?...Who pulls their strings?
