A doctor at Gaza's largest hospital Al-Shifa told AFP that the facility's director and several other medical personnel were arrested by Israeli forces on Thursday.

The director, Mohammad Abu Salmiya, has been frequently quoted by international media about the conditions inside Al-Shifa, a major focus of Israel's ground offensive during its indiscriminate war on the strip.

The Israeli army, which raided the hospital last week, has claimed that Hamas fighters used a tunnel complex beneath the facility in Gaza City to stage attacks. Hamas and hospital officials have repeatedly denied the claims.

"Doctor Mohammad Abu Salmiya was arrested along with several other senior doctors," said Khalid Abu Samra, a chief of department at the hospital.

An official in the Gaza health ministry specified to AFP that one other doctor and two nurses had been detained, as well as the hospital director.

Rule 25.

Medical Personnel

Rule 25. Medical personnel exclusively assigned to medical duties must be respected and protected in all circumstances. They lose their protection if they commit, outside their humanitarian function, acts harmful to the enemy.

Under the Statute of the International Criminal Court, “intentionally directing attacks against … personnel using the distinctive emblems of the Geneva Conventions in conformity with international law” constitutes a war crime in international armed conflicts.[6] This war crime is relevant to medical personnel because they are entitled to use the distinctive emblems of the Geneva Conventions.

If these doctors are alleged to have been cooperating or participating in Terrorism, it isn't "kidnapping" , its called being arrested.

I'm sure these docs will have every due process right given to defendants in the Jewish legal system.

"alleged" (of an incident or a person) said, without proof :itsok:

How do you know what proof the Israelis have of this? The Mossad is actually pretty good at getting information.

And considering the fact that Terrorists tunneled under the hospital that the doctors are supposedly in charge of, I'd say there is a smoking gun here.

Of course, everyone is innocent until proven guilty, that's why they were arrested.

Given that Hamas and its gunmen ultimately controlled the government, the hospitals, the schools and security in general in Gaza, it will probably be very difficult to determine individual doctor’s or nurse’s personal role and responsibilities. Some may have made “pacts with the devil” (let us say collaborating with Hamas in this instance) … because they had little or no choice even if they simply just wanted to continue serving their ordinary patients as much as possible.

Given that Israel and “the international community” acquiescenced in allowing Hamas to function as the government in (Israel and Egyptian-surrounded and “isolated” Gaza) for 17 years, such cooperation — willing or unwilling — with Hamas was absolutely unavoidable for many professionals living (and trapped) in the Gaza Strip.

This is another problem with dictatorships. Where nobody is free to protest, everybody is forced to collaborate to one extent or another.

They didn’t just tunnel under the hospital, they have been using one wing as a headquarters for years.
