The gun shop called this morning and said a guy brought in a bunch of "distressed" guns to put on consignment and they needed my TLC.

I went and spied two rifles I had an interest in, we agreed on a price and after getting the rest up to snuff and ready to sell I took my finds home.

One, a rusty 7.62 NATO STG-58 (Austrian) and the other a grimy Finnish Valmet 62/S, the caddy of AKs.

Well, I got around to looking up the worth of the Valmet (after I cleaned it) and it was worth around 8 times what I paid!

LOL....The scope and mount is worth about $500 by itself.

I called the shop and said I'll bring it back next week.

It's enough to bring a gun nut to tears.

Oh well, the STG turned out A-OK.

WOW like you really detail the weapons when U refurbish them like they look brand new! That 360 degree muzzle brake looks like it would help keep the barrel centered on the bullseye during rapid fire in semi auto mode. Even has it's own bipod & fold down carrying handle like what more could one ask for?

The pic of the STG is "kind". It uses a steel hand guard and it was covered in surface rust. I got it off but it left the park sort of red lookin'.

The HGs are inexpensive so I might just replace them.

The one on the bottom looks like an FN FAL.

During the Cold War the FAL was adopted by many countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), with the notable exception of the United States. It is one of the most widely used rifles in history, having been used by more than 90 countries.

It received the title "the right arm of the free world" from its adoption by many self-proclaimed free world countries. It is chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO, although originally designed for the intermediate .280 British.

StG is short for SturmGewehr. Sturm = Assault and Gewehr (pronounced geh vair)= Rifle.

58 is short for 1958 which is the year that the rifle was adopted by the Austrian Army as the standard issue Main Battle Rifle.

The first 20,000 were manufactured in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale (FN). Later production was in Austria by Steyr under license from FN.

My example has a 4-diget serial, so I suspect it's FN produced.
