The Sudanese government has announced that the UN should abide by its mandate or leave the country, saying it is capable of protecting the land independently.

"UNAMID should either stay and assist the Sudanese government or leave us alone," Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ali Karti warned.

"The UN and the Security Council preoccupy themselves with fabrications started by circles hostile to Sudan rather than focusing on the reality of the situation," Karti said in statement to Sudan Radio.

"Over the past months rebels have looted property and shed blood, but neither the UN nor its representatives in Sudan including UNAMID in Darfur condemns the atrocities," he added.

The Foreign Minister denounced the negative role of UNAMID forces in Darfur.
"They have no capacity to secure because they themselves can only move under the protection of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), Karti explained.

"If UNAMID is claiming the role of protection and it is only monitoring then it should leave us alone," the Foreign Minister reiterated.

Karti also criticised the organisation's handling of the mass rape allegations in Tabit, saying: "The UN forces insist on a reinvestigation to set the stage for submitting a fabricated report to smear Sudan and its government."
"This is another attempt to warrant the stay of the forces in Sudan by distorting the country's image," Karti said.

"The village of Tabit was meticulously targeted by allegations of rape because it was opened as part of several villages for voluntary return, built by the government of Qatar," he said.

"The village is witnessing unprecedented voluntary return," he explained.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs briefed all the diplomatic missions and representatives of the AU and EU in Sudan and sent statements to the UN and the Security Council confirming falsehood of claims of rape in the North Darfur's village of Tabit, Karti said.
