Tariffs

Tariffs are paid by the importers. US companies pay them. And they pass those tariff costs on to their customers.

Trump's tariffs are a tax on the American consumer, not China.
How is that any different from corporate taxes?

Do you think companies eat those taxes? Or do you understand that they pass that cost on to you, the end consumer just like increased fuel costs or increases in the costs of materials.

Thanks, much appreciated. I’m kind of a bachelor. The girlfriend makes it fresh, but I usually when I need it myself and she’s not around I just buy premade. I’m very good with cooking steak eggs and anything I hunt or fish. I’m hit and miss on most other things. I still have not perfected my daughter‘s lasagna after many tries.

You are right.

Trump has created another layer of costs on our consumers that will be passed onto them.

As an old-school conservative, I have always preferred consumption taxes over taxes on production.

Tariffs are a tax on consumption. Income taxes are a tax on production.

So it may appear counterintuitive for me to oppose Trump's plan. However, Trump's plan is just not feasible.

I prefer the Fair Tax, which is also a tax on consumption and much more doable.

You’re no old school conservative.

Progressives, aka American Soviets, wanted more money for their social programs and pushed and pushed for the income tax.
The 16th A was passed by Congress and ratified by the requisite number of states during William Taft's admin, a Repub. You're an idiot.

You have to realize President Trump is a modern day P.T. Barnum. Or a Huey Long, if you will. He's a populist who says silly things to titillate the ignorant masses.
Another way to look at it is Repubs nominated and voted for someone who has a fundamental misunderstanding (too stupid to know what he's talking about) about the central policy on which his economic plans for the country are based.

Here are the problems with the tariff system.

Under our current system, despite the trillions and trillions of dollars of revenue from income taxes, we are still running trillion dollar deficits every year, give or take.

To take in the same revenues from tariffs, they would have to be impossibly high and would bring our economy to a crashing halt.

They would have to be even more impossibly higher since Trump has a pay-your-way-to-exemptions plan which goes directly to his pocket.

Tariffs are a really effective way of soliciting bribes from those who wish exemptions from tariffs.

Apple got an exemption from tariffs after donating $1 million to Trump’s “inauguration fund”. And now that the Supreme Court has legalized “Tips” being paid to government officials by companies doing business with the government, importers are getting out their wallets as fast as they can.

Bingo.

Many of us voted for Trump because the democrat policies are disasters.
A 75% "wrong-track" number has consequences.
Another metric of note is that so many low-IQ democrats still voted for Kamala Harris, talk about too stupid.

A perfect visual of how tariff’s work.

How quickly you and the voters forget that 80% of those polled said the same thing when Trump was President.

Low IQ??? She has a degree in economics, a law degree and she passed the bar. Trump got a BA from Wharton because he paid others to do his papers and even then, he barely passed.

As always, every accusation by Trump, is a confession.

President Trump has propounded two false beliefs about tariffs which his followers have been parroting.

Myth 1: Tariffs are paid by the exporting country.

Trump claims China pays for the tariffs he imposes on imports from China. This is a stunning claim considering he has his line of clothing made there, and his daughter has fashion goods made there.

You can bet he knows better than what he claims.

Elon Musk has his Teslas made in China.

So much for America First.

I am surprised Musk has not publicly corrected Trump on this huge misconception. But then again, Musk is expecting Trump to exempt Teslas from tariffs. That's why he spent so much money to get Trump elected.

Tariffs are paid by the importers. US companies pay them. And they pass those tariff costs on to their customers.

Trump's tariffs are a tax on the American consumer, not China.

Here's the really evil thing about Trump's tariffs: He knows you are paying for them. He is lying when he says China pays them.

And we know this how?

We know this because Trump exempted his large donors from tariffs. Now why would he do that if he thought China was paying them and not those US companies?

During this latest campaign, Apple CEO Tim Cook donated $1 million to Trump.

And that is because Trump exempted Apple's products during his last tariff war, and Cook wants him to continue to provide that exemption.

We live in an oligarchy, and you are paying for their privileges.

Myth 2: We can eliminate the personal income tax and fund the government with tariffs.

The federal budget was indeed paid for prior to the 16th amendment.

But that was before we had infrastructure like dams, interstate highways, subways, and so forth. That was before we stopped factories from polluting our drinking water to the point it was catching on fire every year. That was before we began regulating companies from dumping toxic chemical into our water table and polluting our breathing air.

And that was long before we built a military which is 40 percent of total global defense spending.

40 percent. Of all this planet's countries combined. That's what it takes to keep our sea and air lanes open for trade.

Living off tariffs was before we decided to help those living in miserable squalor after we realized private charities just weren't doing the job.

It is naive beyond comprehension to think we could survive today without the income tax and revert to just tariffs.

You have to realize President Trump is a modern day P.T. Barnum. Or a Huey Long, if you will. He's a populist who says silly things to titillate the ignorant masses.
