you all ready for Obama's skyrocketing utility bills.....?

So much for the denials. An administration that denied it was waging a War on Coal has now come out and publicly declared its intention to shut down coal-fired power plants - putting hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work and sending electricity prices skyrocketing.

Obama claims he can do it all with no say from our elected representatives in Congress, but his designated point person for the effort, Gina McCarthy, awaits Senate confirmation. Given what we know now, a vote for McCarthy can only be understood as a vote for Obama's very expensive and destructive agenda.

Coal still produces 37 percent of U.S. electricity. A Heritage Foundation analysis found that implementing Obama's proposed regulation on existing coal plants would
---destroy more than 500,000 jobs,
---slash the income of a typical family of four more than $1,400 a year, and
---increase electricity prices at least 20 percent.

Price spikes could be much higher in states that depend heavily on coal-fired power plants. President Obama once famously explained that he intended to make electricity prices "necessarily skyrocket."

Here's what Chris Hope (an ardent supporter of the War on Coal) says we've bought for the all the pain and suffering:

In the year 2100 the world might be 0.02°C cooler.

Two hundredths of a degree in a century. Maybe. That's the prize.

the EPA has got to go....

it puts way too much power in the hands of the fascist marxist el presidente...he claims he can do this without Congress....he's just being 'nice' by getting confirmation from the Senate...(which is Dimwit-run of course)

Black lung is on the rise in the US, would you work in a coal mine if it meant shortening your life span?

The problem is that Obama has no clue as to understanding of the phrase energy independence. Nuclear and Hydro? One kills and will never be realized due to environmental politics of the left coast, check out Hanford and the Columbia, the other kills fish. Keep on dreaming! As has been said, why work, as long as other do, the government will take care of you from cradle to grave.

Obama has no right to mess with our ENERGY the WE the people rely to live on without CONGRESS...get ahold of your REPS. in Congress people..

he or his administration is NOT free to do to us AS THEY WISH

here's the problem;

miners live in small town America, ya know, gun grabbing bible thumpers. So their vote is spread out.

also, their union doesn't care about them, they care only about getting (D) elected to office, even if it means miners lose their jobs. They may be assuming that the government will swoop in and save the miners somehow, but I doubt it.

Black lung is on the rise in the US, would you work in a coal mine if it meant shortening your life span?

ask the half million people losing their jobs...

Moonglow and Obama don't give a shit about them. Especially Obama, even though a huge chunk of the population of Coal Country voted for him twice.

So do you sell your shit to the miners? I am sure the miners don't give a shit, or sell, about myself and my economic consequences from a changing market.

The real crime is that so-called "clean coal" technology is attainable and workable.
Coal combustion processes can be made as clean as natural gas combustion.
If the government invested money in this instead of throwing it around on failed solar projects, we'd save jobs and keep electricity rates lower.

There's an irony here. In the early 80s I had to move the natl gas patch in Wyo to find a job... what with the recession in Reagan's first term. The UAW in WV was crying for the miners to be paid for doing nothing ... although there were plenty of jobs in the natl gas patch, but you had to leave home to get there.

Now we have plentiful natl gas that beyond doubt is better for the environment than coal can ever be, and who is carrying water for the miners who don't want to move to ND

If there's ever a reason to spit on the gop, this is it. Along with abortion, taxes and immigration, but this is closer to the knownothing of today's party.

And don't think for a minute that crude and natural gas aren't in Obama's crosshairs.
He's got over $40 billion in taxes waiting in his budget for these industries. Arbitrary taxation that singles out two industries over all others. All of whom receive the same tax provisions.
