Hello from the normally silent center, everyone.

My liberal friends describe me as centrist, and my conservative friends think I’m a flaming hot-pink socialist. At least being centrist lets me have friends on both ends of the spectrum.

Because the center can include people with different stances on various issues, I’ll give you a run down of my own views, free of any apologies.
  • On fiscal issues, I’m very conservative. I staunchly support the concept that government needs to pay off its debts as quickly as possible and to have a balanced budget most of the time. Deficits are acceptable only in a deep crisis.
  • On social issues other than abortion, I’m about as liberal as they come. (On abortion, I’m basically pro-life, but I’m not one of these “ban all abortions without exception” extremists.)
  • In other ways, my politics is mostly like Einstein’s principle that everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler. Put another way, I think government should be made as small as possible, but no smaller. And that the free market should be made as free as possible, but no freer. (Sorry invisible hand fans, but markets don’t improve all by themselves. They get choked to death by the crooks.)

I don’t plan to do a lot of back-and-forth here, because every forum is home to lots of rabid partisans, and nothing that anybody can say or do will get them to change their minds. Mostly I’ll be blogging the centrist opinion on current issues. However, if you want to get into a discussion with me, attack only my ideas or those of others. Do not attack groups of people or anyone else except a public figure. (They’re fair game, of course.) Get hostile or rudely condescending and I’ll ignore you. Behave civilly, and I’ll listen to what you have to say.

That’s it. I’m not here to win or lose, just to speak my own mind.

Well, in a mere 24 hours, you've shown yourself to be a stone liar.

http://www.usmessageboard.com/1326734-post30.html

Didn't attack you personally, but your ridiculous premise. In fact, you are the one who attacked me personally.

If there's one thing worse than a liar, it's a pious phony baloney douchebag of a liar.

Have fun with the half dozen or so posters who won't end up on your iggy list, dickweed.

Cool! I have star power already. People on my ignore list are obsessed with me.

Now all I need are a limo and some paparazzi. :D

Doesn't sound "centrist" to me.

Centrist in the Republican Party, perhaps.

Not to worry, Centrism. "Dude" has got an ego the size of Mt. Rushmore. I read the thread he linked and your comment was truly mild. But the guy can't take the slightest criticism. Don't put him on ignore. Stick around and see what happens when he REALLY gets criticized!! Dude gets so mad, he can even speaks in tongues--usually Latin.

I think the bulk of the GOP right now is (unfortunately) far more toward the right than you realize. For the record, I'm a registered Republican, but at least 9 times out of 10 I end up voting for the Democrat in any given contest. The reason is that the Democratic candidate turns out to have much more in common with my views above than the Republican one.

Welcome to the playground. Hope you brought your own toys. Now, go get in the sandbox.

Yay...why are you here if you are not here to argue your beliefs, or the lack of them

Simple: to tell people what I think and (wherever possible) why. Some of them will think new thoughts and draw new conclusions. Most will stick with their talking points, and I honestly don't care about them at all. :blahblah:

Some of us will simply stick to our principles.

Have fun now, don't take everthing too seriously, or personally

That's a major part of what a free society is, of course: the freedom to have different principles from those of your neighbor. Sadly, too many people forget that they have the power to change those principles if they want to.

I never take anything personally. I just don't bother to explore the merits of a topic with people who'd rather flame or who care only about winning or constantly being right.

As for the serious bit, I promise to add more jokes to the Humor section as soon as I come up with them. Hows that? :D
