Zone1 There Were White Slaves in Africa

The line in the Marine Corp hymn about "To the shores of Tripoli" is in reference to when the US first made an international military excursion to stop the Barbary pirates from attacking our merchant vessels & enslaving our citizens.
We actually paid them tribute & ransoms for a short while before Thomas Jefferson said screw this sh!+ & took action.
The US Marines took Tripoli & brought an end to the piracy.

The Ottoman Empire (Turkey) didn't even make slavery illegal until well into the 20th century, after WWI I believe, with many being European slaves.
We also had white many slaves in America though they were labeled as "indentured servants".

The idea we a re racist country because we had slavery at the same time as the rest of the world is a gaslight of facts & cherry picking history without proper context.
