I put that one in my "interesting" column. Well done but I found the delivery to be rather off, almost choppy. Back when pure capitalism was unrestrained and unregulated, definitely not a feel good kind of movie and yes, replacing the material for one's humanity is ultimately destructive.

Hmmm. I'd heard the 'critique of capitalism' line, but frankly I didn't see much of that. Mostly just as character study - about family, loneliness, alienation, etc.. - and of course the religious allegory.
 
Excellent flick.
He was a mineral prospector that happened to find oil.
It wasn't a treatise on oil or a critique of capitalism.
It was a movie about the character and those around him.
