He probably got medicated and eventually deemed okay, so they released him and he stopped taking his meds and .....
We need slow release injections of medications for the insane, so they aren't responsible for keeping themselves under control by taking daily prescriptions. Get crackin' on that, R&D.

No... once someone kills or attempts to kill, they're done. Maybe they were briefly insane but they can never be trusted again in society.

It appalls me to no end that Hinkley is a free man.

Maybe establish a penal colony for extremely low level threats, so that they can enjoy some sense of freedom if they've earned it, but they need to be contained forever.
