Town Goes Green. Now $7 Million in Debt and Admits They Made a Mistake

A bad contract and an energy resource that is subject to black outs. Looks like the city was looking for a positive cheap fix and it back fired on them badly. A 25 year contract? Bad idea.

Not at all, it did not backfire on them, since they pretty near doubled the pop in the last several years, the contract was for 2012, and by the way, it is a republican mayor.

Morgan said that when the city signed wind and solar contracts around 2012, it was looking at long-term demands and contracted for more energy than it needed to grow into it as the city of Georgetown grew. The city contracted for 20 years with a wind farm west of Amarillo and for 25 years with a solar power farm outside of Fort Stockton, he said.

“We took competitive bids in 2012 for all types of energy production and chose wind and solar because of the competitive nature of the pricing at the time,” Morgan said. “If we had chosen a natural gas project in 2012 for a long-term contract, we would still have the same situation, because it’s all about long-term contracting and where the energy market was in 2012.”

No it said the contract would need to be rewrote either way.

There is nothing wrong with coaxing green eco energy. But this forced crap and the games politicians play keep the consumer in a ying yang cost crap dilemma which is also affected by other events. Gasoline was near 5 dollars a gallon at its peak under Obama. That technically destroys jobs in a system like ours. We have a 3000 mile wide nation not a couple of hundred miles. People have free interstate travelling and love their vehicles. But dildos like you constantly interfere in the joy of life. Its like being in a prison with a ball and chain tied to our legs. Upgrade housing/buildings. Upgrade insulation. Upgrade A/C Heating units. Upgrade equipment used in buildings and homes. Keep it up. Promote better exhaust for cars and trucks. But making our backyards as pure as can be with no bacteria at all on it when being clean environmentally is enough is insanity.

Georgetown, Texas was a poster child for Al Gore and Mike Bloomberg’s big, bright, green agenda. They took funds from Bloomberg’s organization and went full tilt for wind and solar energy. Now the town has higher power bills and taxes. City council trying to get out of their fuck-up.
Chuck DeVore: 'Green New Deal' preview? Texas town's lofty environmentalism leaves residents with a nightmare

This finally makes it more obvious what’s going on. Obama had one bad period of manufacturing job growth: 2015-17. By cherry picking that period, DeVore gets his 6x ratio. If he had done it honestly, simply comparing Trump’s first two years to Obama’s entire post-recession record, he could have said that Trump’s growth rate was 70 percent higher than Obama’s. Not bad! But that’s never good enough for these guys. They always have to overdo it.

Chuck DeVore: The New Conservative Darling, Birther Connections And All

In addition to fiscal discipline, however, DeVore’s closet includes some weird and potentially damaging associations. As pointed out by a Republican source, the assemblyman is connected to noted birther Floyd Brown. Brown, who is famous for creating the 1988 Willie Horton ad and, more recently, pushing an effort to impeach Barack Obama, was supported by DeVore in his efforts to attack Democratic candidates in the 2008 presidential primary.

“Poll after poll shows it works,” DeVore said of Brown’s deeply controversial product.

All of which is not to say that associations like these — and his relative obscurity — will trip DeVore up in a primary race. Indeed, he likely relishes his current frame as a man of the conservative fringe.

Why would I care if the mayor was Republican or a Democrat, a bad deal is a bad deal. Unlike you a politician’s party affiliation doesn’t matter to me. The source is liable to have brown outs. That is an unacceptable means of energy. It failed, the contract sucked, no other towns in the area are facing this issue. A mistake was made, rectify it and move on.

And President Donald Trump has made clear his preference, both on the campaign trail and now in office. During a rally in West Virginia on Aug. 21, Trump told nearly 9,000 cheering supporters: “In times of war, in time of conflict, you can blow up those windmills. They fall down real quick. … But you know what you can’t hurt? Coal.”

and he couldn't be more wrong, coal is dead. You can blow up coal mines as well.
