That is a classic case of why statutes of limitations exist. It’s impossible to effectively defend yourself from charges based on events that happened several decades ago. If Carrol’s allegations had only been a few years old, Trump would have been able to find witnesses and concrete evidence to refute them. As is no one can remember any particular day decades ago, so unfounded complaints can’t be refuted. The case should never have been brought and New York should have never temporarily suspended the statutes of limitations on sex crime claims.
