Hundreds of times during his campaign, and again after the announcement that he had won the election, Trump has promised that he will lower inflation, "Donald Trump, U.S. President-Elect: I went on groceries. It's a very simple word, groceries. Like almost, you know, who uses the word? I started using the word, the groceries. When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time. And I won an election based on that. We're going to bring those prices way down".

Three days ago in an interview, he started to backpedal on that promise:

What's behind Trump's backpedaling on his promises to lower prices

After making inflation and the cost of groceries part of his campaign, President-elect Trump is starting to walk back some of his promises to lower prices.

My question on this OP is as follows:

"Will you be forgiving, excusing, or angry at Trump for not keeping his promise?"

There's already a post on the topic.

He will lower prices but gradually.

Cutting government spending will help, increasing energy supply and lowering energy cost will help

The only drastic way is to cut the money supply and that will crash the economy

He needs to be an American Milei

His entire "we will drill baby drill", was too simple an answer though it would work to a certain degree without question. You have to be confident that the price of gas will go down though. Trump has a way of demanding and world leaders responding.

The concern now must be, are they looking to use DOGE to decrease government costs just so enable Trump the ability to spend like a drunken sailor as governments normally do? I hope not, I really do hope not.

He could be a truly transformation and generational president if he cuts government spending and your deficit and debt. THAT is the best way to decrease inflation.

If he is saying "it's difficult to decrease it", it signals to me that he is just going to spend on different boondoggles.

Costs need to be cut as Milei succeeded in doing in Argentina. He dropped the monthly inflation rate from 25% to 2% in a year! It can be done, but you need leadership with courage. If you don't get your debt under control, China is going to win.

Regardless of what they actually think, the rube base will always forgive him, spin for him, and attack for him. They've sold their soul to him. As for the millions of normal people who bought this bullshit, I guess we'll see.

The Democrats did an absolutely horrible job of explaining how the inflation actually happened. Actually, I don't think they even TRIED. Yes, it would be a little complicated, but they sure as hell could have trusted the people and tried.

The President doesn't control the output of oil to the point that the industry doesn't make money.

Congress is the only entity that can create or eliminate a department that it created. The House creates and directs funding for the government. The president can't play with the US government's budgets.

Politicians lie to get into office, Trump is a politician.

He doesn't have to sign anything, right? Doesn't any funding require his final signature?

You don't have to even eliminate departments though it would be wise to do so. You can merge and more importantly simply cut funding.

In this case I don't think messaging would have overcome the reflexive, ill-informed response people have to blame the prez for everything that goes wrong. Unfortunately, we have an electorate that largely doesn't pay attention to, or care about, nuance, detail, or facts. They're too busy watching TikTok videos and trying to figure out who the masked singer is.

What Trump is stating is a given to anyone who's at all familiar with inflation. It's far easier to increase the cost of goods and services through bad policy that creates inflation than it is to then lower those prices through good policy. When prices increase dramatically then workers eventually demand higher wages. Those higher wages add to inflationary pressure. In order to lower prices Trump is going to need to reduce costs by making energy less expensive and reducing regulation. What people really want is a return to a situation where their wages aren't eaten up by ever increasing inflation. Trump understands what needs to happen to make that happen unlike the far left that doesn't seem to care.

Sad but true.

The question in the OP is whether failing to keep his promises is important and negatively TRANSFORMATIONAL and GENERATIONAL to the Trump supporters

By the way and as far as Oil is concerned. You are aware that the Oil companies need $60 oil to break even, aren't you? and all Oil companies are in business of making profits. With Oil presently at $70, Trump is not going to BE ABLE to bring oil prices down. The Oil companies will not allow it. Why would they produce more to make less profits?

Answer that if you can!

I expect trump to make lowering inflation a high priority

All simple, but logical and true.

The question is,

Why oh why of why...did Trump LIE ABOUT THIS, during his campaign? Only then, after his win, to immediately hedge on it?

Oil is a global phenomenon and it can be flooded if Saudi Arabia or other nations decide to flood it. Also, the production costs vary by region and generally only refer to new wells.

Regardless, inflation can be more quickly decreased by decreasing money supply and to stop spending and borrowing ffs. If Trump doesn't do that NOTHING else will matter.
