I'm not even sure what Trump accomplishes here...other than transferring this Gang Boss into state custody?
Does he think Black folks will be grateful that he showed some love to a notorious drug dealer and murderer?

As Hoover still has a 200 year sentence to serve in Illinois to serve....so he's on the bus back to Illinois.
As his Federal conviction was for running his gang from a prison in Illinois..I guess it's back in business for Larry.

President Donald Trump has commuted the federal life sentence of Larry Hoover, one of Chicago's most notorious gang leaders, according to his attorneys.

Hoover, 74, the founder of the Gangster Disciples, has spent nearly three decades in solitary confinement at ADX Florence in Colorado, widely considered one of the most secure prisons in the world.

"Larry Hoover's federal life sentences have been commuted by President Donald Trump," Bonjean Law Group said in a statement to ABC News. "Mr. Hoover, who is now 75 years old, spent nearly 30 years in solitary confinement at ADX Florence -- the most restrictive, draconian supermax prison in the United States."

Hoover is expected to be transferred from the notorious supermax prison in Colorado to a prison in Illinois at some point.

"Thankfully, Mr. Hoover's pleas were heard by President Trump, who took action to deliver justice for Mr. Hoover," Bonjean Law Group concluded. "We are thrilled to see that Mr. Hoover will be released from federal custody."

The drug lord is now in state custody.

The guards and other inmates are going to hurt them.

I doubt anyone cares about Larry Hoover at this point.

The problem is that after the Feds broke up the El Ruhkns, the Gangster Disciples (Hoover's gang) and the Latin Kings, a bunch of smaller gangs filled the vacuum. This made it a lot worse, because while the big three gangs were happy dividing up Chicago as a territory, these little gangs are often fighting turf battles over street corners, which is why the homicide rate spiked in Chicago in the mid-teens.

(IT didn't help that the National Rampage Association got most of Chicago's sensible gun laws struck down.)

Trump is now handing out the pardons that Alice Johnson puts in front of him. She was a first-time offender sentenced to life for relaying communications for a drug gang and Trump pardoned her in his first term. He appointed her to run his pardon program this time around. In between, she has been an advocate for criminal justice reform so she is looking at it through a different lens than most people.

At 75 I doubt he is running anything anymore, and now the Feds don't have to pay for his upkeep.

The State can handle it now.

Well, she did more than that, she was running a cocaine trafficking operation.

One could argue her sentence was excessive, but putting her in charge of pardons and clemency is a bit much.

But then again, elect a felon, expect crime.

I don't see why an old man like Mr. Hoover should be in the ADX for decades.

Seems to be a bit over the top, even if he was a fuckup earlier in his prison sentence.

Hoover should be out on the yard with the other convicts, playing poker for cigarettes

It wasn't a "fuckup". He was put in SuperMax because he was running his street operations in Chicago from his prison cell.

Now, 30 years later, maybe it doesn't make sense, as other people have taken over his gang.

You really should be blaming OJ Simpson. But for him murdering his wife, there would have been no Robert Kardashian and therefore no Kim Kardashian and therefore no Alice. If that glove had just fit, we could have been spared all of this mushy mercy crap.

No offense, but I still don't see why anyone would pardon or commute a sentence for Larry Hoover. That fucker was right where he needed to be until death.

Confining someone in the ADX is a very expensive proposition.

Why punish the taxpayers when this fellow will be just as secure at the tremendous Statesville Penitentiary in Illinois at a much lower cost to John Q Twelvepack who has to pony up for Mr. Hoover's room and board.

President of Delta?

Just kidding!

Someone probably asked Trump for the commutation, told him about thirty years solitary, and Trump commuted his sentence.

This may be a momentus decision for Hoover, but for a president, it's nothing to take a lot of time contemplating.

So the hope of Democrats is that bringing back a human trafficking, drug dealing, wife beater, back fro El Salvador will do what?
