That's not how this works. Nations that border Russia but are part of NATO will not be invaded by Russia, because Russia doesn't want to start WW3.If Putin can claim any kind of a win out of his unprovoked illegal terrorist invasion of a neighboring democratic nation the security of every country that shares a border with Russia will be in jepordy specifically and the cause of freedom and democracy in general will be imperiled.
In reality, Ukraine cannot hope to defeat Russia, occupy Moscow or force a regime change.
Ukraine can, with the help of the free world easily out last Putin, who can end this war whenever he wants...or when his army falls down.
Only Trump can save Putin the humiliating withdrawal of his army that it so deserves.
Ukraine is hardly the "democratic" nation so many Westerners gush about. Zelenskyy suspended elections around the start of the war, and if I'm not mistaken, they're still suspended. Ever since Ukraine gained independence, they've just been a vassal state of the West and Russia alternately. At any given time, the prevailing regime is either a Western puppet or a Russian one.
This isn't unique to Ukraine, of course. Multiple former Soviet Republics are like this due to corruption and typically vulnerable economies.
In practical terms, Crimea is part of Russia, and the vast majority of people living there are ethnically Russian. A large portion of the Donbas is ethnically Russian as well. So, there's not a lot we could do to get Russia out of the Donbas without committing to what could easily escalate to WW3. Personally, I don't view Ukraine as being worth that.
A partition plan of some sort is most practical at this point, but we should also extend NATO membership to what remains of Ukraine. Neither side would get everything they want, but that's exactly how compromise works. Putin would hold onto parts of Ukraine, but the remainder of Ukraine would be protected by NATO.
