Westinghouse Electric Co., the U.S. nuclear power-plant builder owned by Toshiba Corp. (6502), agreed to provide fuel to Ukraine’s state-owned reactor operator Energoatom to replace supplies from Russia.
Westinghouse will “significantly” increase fuel deliveries to Ukrainian nuclear plants through 2020, the Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania-based company said today in a statement.
Ukraine gets about 44 percent of its power from nuclear facilities, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the country has historically relied on Russia to supply the fuel. The nation’s economy likely shrank by an estimated 7.5 percent this year amid a separatist conflict and Russia’s takeover of Crimea.
Westinghouse won a contract in 2008 to supply nuclear fuel to Energoatom, formally the National Nuclear Energy Generating Co., beginning in 2011, and agreed in April to continue deliveries through 2020.
It seems we started to force out Russia in the nuclear power market. Obviously it's a good deal!!!

But I can't rely on this Westinghouse. I'll explain why:
Nuclear Power Plant Accidents
As usual America will be blaimed at the nuclear catastrophe which is to be worse than notorious Chernobyl!!!

In such case money doesn't make sense. We must save our specialists and prevent the disaster in Europe.

Ukraine'll show those gosh darned Rooskies. Ukraine don't need no heating oil. Ukraine don't need no gasoline. Ukraine don't need no natural gas.

So anyway, this presents a golden opportunity for all the world's petroleum-loathing warmie lunatics, doesn't it? On account of Ukraine is being forced to entertain an ever larger dependence on NUCLEAR POWER! Good work.

I've been having a read up on this subject, and it's very interesting.
There is a school of thought that suggests the use of these fuel rods is extremely dangerous, something that may well be backed up by recent events.
As those who follow the news will know, there have been several emergency reactor shut downs over the last few months, all since they started using these new fuel rods, claimed to be incompatible with the old Russian built reactors.
A possible indication of a very dangerous game being played.

I guess with the Fukushima reactor building 4 defueling now completed without the world ending, a new nuclear bogeyman to panic about was needed.

(Remember, if you see it on enenews.com, it's almost certainly 100% bullshit.)

Here is the results of Fukushima tragedy, which is also connected with Westinghouse by the way:

Japan has paid huge contributions to the world society.
And please don't compare hard-working and accountable Japan with careless and negligent Ukraine.

The results of the "Fukushima tragedy" are still _zero_ people killed from radiation. There will be a few cancer deaths, but not enough to be detectable above the noise.

It's getting impossible to spin that as something to get hysterical about. So now they're screaming about ... back pay. The pickings are gettin' mighty slim among the anti-nukes.
