When the God of the Old Testament orders Israelites to give a % of their produce and resources to the priesthood and poor, it's not a suggestion, but a direct order. It's God's law. The amount of taxes that you give depends upon which tax bracket you're in and what the marginal tax rate is. You have to pay in taxes whatever society has determined the tax is for you. If you don't do that you're a criminal and you should be thrown in jail. As a member of society you have certain obligations and responsibilities, one of them is giving unto Caesar ar what is Caesar's. That was Christ's response to those who challenged him on the question of taxes. Render unto Caesar what belongs to him, namely taxes. You can argue with Jesus.
