I think Putin may have thought Biden to be old and weak and would do nothing to stop his annexation of Ukraine.

Every ground pounder weapon in the Soviet arsenal has the same interchangeable trigger assembly. You can take an AK and an SKS trigger and put it on an RPG. And AK can fire even if you drop it in the mud. An M-4 round will bounce off a windshield, but an AK or SKS round will penetrate.
