I'm assuming that most of this violence is done by minority gangs. So is it accurate to blame the single parent families for not being there for their child? Making the child turn to these gangs...

I think this is the biggest problem facing this nation.

How do we uplift these people? I think we need to discuss the most important issue we face.

During the 1960's the prison population declined. Poverty declined because of an expanding economy, and War on Poverty programs. The crime rate doubled. Since the election of Ronald Reagan the prison population has tripled. The crime rate has declined by one third.

The way to reduce the crime rate is to scrape the criminals off the street, beat them until they are half dead to break their spirit, and then shovel them into vast slave labor camps where the whip will be laid on with power and enthusiasm. There are a lot of whites in prisons. Almost half, as a matter of fact, but the other half is black. The plain truth is that blacks are overrepresented about 6 times in the criminal justice system, the welfare system, the single parent family, high school drop out statistics.

Humans don't do well in cities. Removed so completely from nature I think something bad happens to us. It's why everyone who can leave does so if only on weekends. Throw in a lot of guns, a lot of alcohol, and a lot of poverty the result is predictable.
