Yellen: American Manufacturing Is a ‘Pipe Dream,’ May Not Be a ‘Desirable Goal’

OK
So what you are hypothesizing is a total cessation of free trade in the entire world.

Under what scenario do you think that would happen?

ANSWER THE QUESTION.

This is leftards refusing to engage. They are on a discussion site, they come here and fill the pages with their negs, but they refuse to actually engage in any actual discussion of issues.

They have realized that their policies are so bad for America and Americans, that the only way they can hope to advance them, is to refuse to discuss them.

They will attack the other side and make idiotic assertions constantly, but never engage in discussion.

I never said that. I am simply stating that we need to produce things in order to have national security. It can be like autos. a lot of countries make them.

Manufacturing began moving out 50 years ago.
Our economy adjusted. We now have 4 percent unemployment.

Americans are not going to leave their current jobs to work on an assembly line.

Kids don’t graduate hoping to work on an assembly line
Ahh, the old "jobs Americans won't do" canard.

I didn't know you were such a W fan.

Ever notice that every single time pundits try to name one of these jobs Americans allegedly won't do, they are immediately proven wrong.

The fact of the matter is that, as we speak, the are multitudes of Americans working on assembly lines. I've personally worked on assembly lines myself.

That is proof that Americans will indeed work on assembly lines.

GSE's to assist AMERICAN companies in lower-end manufacturing in Central and South America. I've gone over this multiple times, but you people had (to no surprise) no idea what I was talking about.
Now, list off that $7 trillion for me.
What are those deals? What is their timeline? And how much more is the figure than they were already planning on spending?
1. You can do your own research, its called "google"

2. Here are a few links to get you started.

UAE commits to $1.4 trillion US investment, White House says

This is a great ad for the GOP moving forward.

There is no question you have some Establishment politicians who are not exactly in the corner of American Interests.
Many Americans want more factories in the US, they just don't want to work the factory jobs.

Makes sense. THey want the jobs for those that want the jobs. I'm not really up for changing careers at this point in my life, but I know plenty of younger people that would jump at the chance.

So, what part of this is confusing to you?

Yep, young folks would jump at a factory job, until they discover that it involves doing the same thing over and over all day long.

Jobs are for money. Young people will like jobs that give them enough money to get ahead.

These Democrats do not want the American working class to recover EVER. They want everyone on the Democrat welfare state plantation.

You just never stop with the stupidity do you??? Trump is the man who immediately cancelled the infrastucture bill, ended $35 a month insulin, and cancelled overtime for fast food workers. In fact, Trump has done more damage to working Americans than any President in history.

That is because there wasn't any infrastructure in it you twat
If only 5% of two and a quarter trillion dollars will go toward traditionally defined infrastructure projects, where does the other 95% go?

Yes, I do know where the money was going: Into construction of MANUFACTURING PLANTS, for the conversion to green energy that Trump is also cancelling. This is problematic because the USA is spending $200 billion dollars a year on climate disasters.

Meanwhile Trump's also ending all FEMA assistance, leaving states which are still doing cleanup on massive storms and floods in North Carolina, with no money and no workers.

Then there's the effect of Trump's last trade war which set the manufacturing sector back to 2009. These articles are from his first administration.

So you've ended the policies which gave the USA an economy that was the "envy of the world", to return us to the failed policies which causes Trump's first economic collapse.

OK, here's my question: according to the BLS, in Feb 2025 the US had approx 482,000 job openings in manufacturing. Absorb that for a moment, do we need more job openings or more people to fill them? Specifically, US citizens.

Now, consider this:
A chart that went viral on multiple social media platforms over the weekend highlights this major tension when it comes to reshoring factory jobs: While Americans say they want more manufacturing back in the U.S., they do not personally believe they'd be better off working one of them.

The graphic, made by the Financial Times and based on a 2024 survey from the Cato Institute, shows that while 80% of Americans believe the country would be better off with more manufacturing jobs, just 25% believe they would individually be better off working in a factory.

"It's a result that holds across class, education, and racial lines," wrote Colin Grabow, associate director at Cato's Herbert A. Stiefel Center for Trade Policy Studies, when the survey came out. "The most enthusiastic group, those aged 18–29, still registered just 36% interest in manufacturing employment."

So, WTF are we doing here?

No one is disputing the fact that Nixon and Henry Kissinger were key in beginning of trade with the CCP.
Contrary to your statement about Americans refusal to work in assembly lines, you'll have to discuss that with the assembly worker presently working in Hyundai, KIA, Nissan and Toyota plants now in the U.S.
They seem to have adjusted well to their work environment and so will other American workers willing to work..
