Zone1 And goes like this!

Exactly. God gave mankind 120 years from the time he voiced his displeasure until he brought the flood. If he gave Noah his orders at the same time then mankind had 120 years to 'eat, drink, and be merry' and Noah had 120 years to build the ark. It is likely that God granted that time for Noah rather than for mankind. Numerically God was giving man three chances of 40 years to repent.
That certainly is possible. But, it seems like it would not take that long without all the restriction for building regulations we have today. He had instructions from God how to build it. Maybe a few months to a couple of years is all. In the movie, Evan Almighty, Evan, the modern day Noah built the ark in a couple of months with the help of his family and the animals. See, with the real Noah, God had a time table and I'm sure it was close to the time in which he instructed Noah to build the ark.

I think the timetable was more about a 'space to repent', as Peter suggests.

1 Peter 3:19-20

19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water

What does that have to do with Noah building the Ark. Seems like you are mixing up where to write your posts. And, that verse says that people's spirits go to a waiting place. That place is where the wicked and unrepentant go. Why they were wicked or unrepentant may have to do with when they lived and there was no knowledge of God. In chapter 4, this is brought out more that people will have a chance to hear the fullness of the Gospel and choose in a way they can be judged with the living that had the chances.

Read the italicized sentence. It suggests that the space to repent and the time Noah needed to build the are was the same 120 years.
