The right debates things like how to lower the public debt, how and where to shrink bloated government, the most efficient use of tax revenue, and the best way to educate our kids. The right also debates whether the government has authority to enforce social issues and to what extent, and the best way to secure the borders. Seriously, you need to attend the meetings.

Where is any diversity of thought on the left? All we see is uniform demands for higher spending and taxes, and ever increasing government size and power. The only differences are in degree.

So you have large contingent of conservatives who support open borders and amnesty,

and yet are considered good and true conservatives?

You have a large contingent of conservatives who are pro-choice on abortion, and yet are considered good and true conservatives?

You ahve a large contingent of conservatives who support same sex marriage, and yet are considered good and true conservatives?

We have large contingents of conservatives who support limited government but are pro-choice. We have large contingents of conservatives who are pro-life but support government assistance to the poor. This is why we can say that W was no fiscal conservative, but was a social conservative. IOW, very few people are "pure" conservatives, and that's just fine.
