Of course, Trump will veto this bill if it passes the House, but he is going to face a lot of Republican opposition to these tariffs. This is humiliating for Trump.
Rand Paul is 100% correct -- Tariffs are taxes. Since when do full-of-shit Repugs love taxes???
This tariff debacle is not going to end well for Trump. --
The Senate voted 51-48 Wednesday to undo President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada, delivering its first major rebuke to Trump since he returned to the White House.
Four Republicans — Sens. Mitch McConnell (Kentucky), Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Rand Paul (Kentucky) — defied Trump and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) by voting with Democrats to invalidate a national emergency that Trump declared in February, allowing him to impose a 25 percent tariff on Canadian goods.
Trump has vowed to veto the bill, even if it made it through the Republican-controlled House.
The president accused Collins, McConnell, Murkowski and Paul of disloyalty ahead of the vote. “The Senate Bill is just a ploy of the Dems to show and expose the weakness of certain Republicans, namely these four, in that it is not going anywhere because the House will never approve it and I, as your President, will never sign it,” Trump wrote in a post published at 12:58 a.m. on his Truth Social platform.
The resolution’s supporters have described it as a way to send a message to Trump about the broad discontent with his tariff strategy, even if it has no chance of becoming law.
“We think that the economic chaos that’s being caused — markets being roiled and consumer confidence dropping and some predicting recession — together with a bipartisan vote might convince the White House” to change course, said Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia), who introduced the resolution with Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota) and Mark R. Warner (D-Virginia).
