55 Years Ago Today Three Men Left Earth to Go to the Moon

I was 4 at the time and it's one of the few things I remembered.
I was a rocket geek obsessed with space travel as a kid. Seems like missions were all the time.
I fully expected at the time we would have already established a real presence off world by now.

And 55 years ago today Americans walked on the moon just because we wanted to.

I watched the landing with my Grandma who survived the San Francisco earthquake and heard the news of the Wright brothers and saw the first automobiles in the Bay Area.

I think the recent Apollo 11 documentary is the best ever. No narration, and they used video rarely seen before. The events tell the story.

And a fun movie is the Dish. Story of the Australian dish that’s responsible for getting the signal of the landing. Some creative license (they didn’t lose track) but an overall great story.
