Here's the problem with "Securing the border". If you catch someone and send them back, they try again the next day. And the next day. And the day after that.
If we defended our border properly, we wouldn't have nearly so much of an issue that way.
Committing an act of war against a foreign nation, attempting to invade that nation illegally, ought to be a very dangerous undertaking, carrying a very high risk of getting killed in the attempt.
If we used appropriate deadly force to defend our borders, then fewer criminals would attempt to invade our country, and those killed trying to do so once would certainly not be trying again.
The invasion of our country is an act of war, and we need to be treating it as such, if we ever want to solve the problem.
The SENSIBLE thing to do would be to create a guest worker program like they have in Germany. Seasonal workers come for a while from poorer countries to do unsavory jobs and go home when they've made enough money.
This is a rare instance in which I find myself mostly in agreement with you. If we do determine that there is a benefit to allowing foreign workers into our country on a limited basis, then I am all for an orderly, organized, controlled program to do so.
Allowing foreign criminals to cross our borders legally, in an controlled manner, would have no part at all in any such program. Those are still foreign invaders, enemies of this country, and need to be treated as such.
