Actually in the last century it was secular ideologies, fascism and communism, that did the most damage, not religions. All ideologues are dangerous people because to keep the faith, one must reject all information that doesn't support it and regard the people presenting this information as your enemies.

I agree that Communism is a secular ideology, but if you ever read Mein Kompf, you'd know that Hitler was fanatically religious - and so were his supporters.

It was not just in the South. There was just as much persecution in other states. The second Klan was centered in the Midwest, not the South.
