Interestingly, the more socialist a region is, the less empathetic it becomes. Look at all the dark blue cities in America. A violent crime takes place right in front of people and everyone either stands there watching or flees the scene. Neighbors are suspicious of each other. Fear of lawsuits is prevalent. When someone does the right thing to stop a crime ... THEY are arrested and become the criminal.

I think I'll just stay in a smaller, more conservative town where compassion and a sense of right and wrong is the name of the game.

I think part of the problem is also cities. When you have large amounts of people crammed together they spend all their time trying to block everyone else out. People can only be invested in so many others before it's too much. So they don't even see others as people, just things in their way and over time they just don't give a shit.

And honestly I think too much diversity plays into it. When you have hundreds of different ethnicity's, religions, beliefs, skin colors, foriegn backgrounds, values and such all mashed together and no one wants to back down. They want American society to conform to them but they won't conform to American society it breeds apathy and distrust. When you're too diverse no one has a sense of commonality with others, they are comfortable, there is no familiarity with others. If you have a society where everyone looks similar, speaks the same language, follow the same societal rules and everyone has a somewhat similar outlook then even if you travel 1000 miles 3 states away you're still around people you can relate to even if they are strangers.

Social media, mainstream media, and politicians like our current administration also exacerbate the problem because they demand diversity and demand we integrate with others, and at the same time try to create strife and anger among those people. Like are they saying "you must live with these people and you must hate them".
