Another man shot in Britain....why doesn't that whole gun control thing work?

No one is pushing for 100% effective gun control policies.

Even though gun violence does occur in England, its is still much lower than the US. That's why shootings in England make the news, but it doesn't happen that much.

You conservatives always act like you know what's going on in other countries, yet you've never stepped foot outside of the US.

How about travel the world first before acting like experts on other nations.

The statistics from those other nations tell the story. Gun crime in Britain is up 23%...on top of the yearly increases...and it is up 42% in London, the city with the most police cameras anywhere in the world.....and yet in the U.S., as more Americans own and carry guns...our gun crime rate went down 75%, our gun murder rate went down 49% and our violent crime rate went down 72%......

Britain is about to see and expansion of crime and violence that is going to be on a massive scale. They are cutting their police, they are crippling the police they have with political correctness, and their social institutions can no longer civilize the young males raised in homes headed by single teenage girls.......

Seems like you're an expert on British life. Have you been there before?

Never claimed to be an expert on British life....I have been following their crime rates...which are going up. Try reading "Life at the Bottom." It chronicles the growing mess that is the British welfare state, and the prime mover of their crime rate.........single teenage girls raising young males on welfare......

I also read about their police....they have cut funding and are increasing politicial correctness.....another reason for increased crime....

It does work. You're just saying gun control only works if it's 100% successful all the time.

Murders are still 1/4 the US murder rate. I'd say that's successful. The UK's murder rate is around the normal mark for first world countries. The US's isn't.
Make up your mind ! Every time the high rate of murders in US black communities is addressed the PC claim that is a result of economic discrimination and now you say it's lower in Britain because of gun control and not because they are more PC how they hire and not fire no matter how many fuck up royally on the job.
In Switzerland every able bodied male who served in the military gets to keep his service rifle + ammo in order to be ready when called. They have a much lower murder rate by gun than Britain but they also don't have "black lives matter" or mayors like the one in London or Chicago !!!!

I don't think it's a matter of me making my mind up.

Crime is higher in poorer communities in the UK, the US, Switzerland and everywhere else.

In the US the problems are exacerbated by having groups of people who have basically lost all hope, living in ghettos and they're causing more problems than other poorer communities.

The expression is "Guns don't kill people, people do", which is a simplification that is too simple to explain anything properly. The reality is the people with guns are more effective killers, and more likely to feel powerful than with other weapons. It's easier to kill a person with a gun, you don't need to get close.

Switzerland is a completely different situation than the US. Switzerland, for example, has a lower murder rate than the UK, but has a higher gun murder rate than the UK. But Switzerland is a rich country. It has low unemployment, it has a high standard of living. The guns are in the hands of people who have been trained and they're locked up. People don't carry them around where they might end up using them. When they do get used it's going to be in situations where people know they're going to get in trouble for using them because they have to account for all their ammo and things like that.

This issue isn't a simple one. People often misrepresent the issue because they can then make it fit their agenda.

Police and paramedics were scrambled to the scene after gunshots were heard in Woodman Street, North Woolwich, on Monday night.

A 25-year-old man was rushed to hospital after suffering facial injuries and a gunshot wound to the torso in the attack at about 10.20pm.

Police believe the victim was shot by a suspect in a vehicle which then sped off, Scotland Yard has said.

KATY, Texas --
A 60-year-old grandmother shot and killed a home invader who broke into her Texas home Monday, authorities said.

Deputies said the suspect was fatally shot when he and another suspect tried to rob the woman inside her rental home in west Harris County. The second suspect got away, leaving neighbors on edge.

Gun control does nothing but leave law abiding citizens defenseless.

You can see this in the violent crime rate in Britain.....the only thing that is different, is their criminals don't commit murder as often...and that is even changing....

Well, if you let me know the point to your post, it might help me respond.

This guy makes me chuckle.

On the same day someone got shot in the UK 30 people were killed by guns in the US. Thus proving the "let every nut have a gun" policy is a big winner.

Of course on the same day at least 5000 lives were saved by the good guys carrying a gun.

So thats ok then.

Crime rise is biggest in a decade, ONS figures show

Ministers will also be concerned that the country is becoming increasingly violent in nature, with gun crime rising 23% to 6,375 offences, largely driven by an increase in the use of handguns. Knife crime has also jumped by 20% to 34,703 incidents – the highest level for seven years. The largest increase in knife crime came in London, which accounted for 40% of the rise.

Gun crime in London increases by 42% - BBC News

Gun crime offences in London surged by 42% in the last year, according to official statistics.

The Met Police's figures showed there were 2,544 gun crime offences from April 2016 to April 2017 compared to 1,793 offences from 2015 until 2016.
Knife crime also increased by 24% with 12,074 recorded offences from 2016 to 2017.

Violent crime on the rise in every corner of the country, figures suggest

But analysis of the figures force by force, showed the full extent of the problem, with only one constabulary, Nottinghamshire, recording a reduction in violent offences.

The vast majority of police forces actually witnessed double digit rises in violent crime, with Northumbria posting a 95 per cent increase year on year.

Of the other forces, Durham Police recorded a 73 per cent rise; West Yorkshire was up 48 per cent; Avon and Somerset 45 per cent; Dorset 39 per cent and Warwickshire 37 per cent.

Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.

Our gun laws make us a gazillion times safer than the US. Your scripted responses dont negate that FACT.

You cant argue with the truth bubba !!

You are the one arguing with the truth...data from your own country shows you aren't safe from violent criminals....they just won't murder you after they rape, rob, stab, beat and throw acid on you........
And 64 Americans have been shot and killed since your OP. I would give anything to be that safe.

Except it is actual news.......and you can deny it all you want but gun control in Britian isn't working.....
Perhaps you could quantify that. Compared to the US it is working fine.

Okay....

Britain banned guns....

The United States did not ban guns.....

We went from 200 million guns in private hands in the 1990s and 4.7 million people carrying guns for self defense in 1997...to close to 400-600 million guns in private hands and over 16.3 million people carrying guns for self defense in 2017...guess what happened...
