Questions Raised Over Age Of Consent After Teen Gets Probation For Sexual Contact With 10-Year-Old WBNS-10TV Columbus Ohio

It is an alarming case, with what some call an alarming outcome. 19-year-old Jeffrey Arnez Ross admitted to sexual contact with a girl in a bathroom of a Columbus Recreation Center but avoided prison time.
Prosecutors and the judge say the 10-year-old victim was not forced into sex with an adult.
Jeffrey Ross was 18-years-old last June when he admits to going into a ladies room with the girl and receiving oral sex.
In a letter to the judge, he first denied it, writing, "I never would have went in the restroom knowing that her age was 10 years old. When we walked in the restroom, I asked her of her age and she told me 11. That's when I told her no, we can't do this....all we did was talk in that restroom.""

Statutory rape is usually the very easiest rape to prosecute. If sex is determined to have happened, and the ages of both parties established, that's usually it.
