I still feel it takes guts to get on a rocket and get launched into the upper atmosphere.

It takes guts to get on an airplane. It takes guts to get on a ship. We are just more used to being on planes and ships. So we do not see those as the inherent risk they are. You could have engine failure, landing gear fail. Ships have gone down with some or all passengers dead. Hell you could get killed by a drunk diver just by walking.
There are risks everyday.

Correct. I used to jump out of aircraft.....so I understand that.

Course getting in something that has a good chance of blowing up....that's a bigger pucker-factor than usual.

But I really wonder if any of this was genuine.

I have a real problem with calling anyone an astronaut that only sits in a capsule that barely makes it to the edge of space, is just a passenger and only gets to watch.
I think they were just a number of passengers on an automated ride. They had no special training or any special skills. Nor did they have any special thing to do.
It is a great thrill ride.

Right. The safety explanation on most planes is that long. So does that make me a pilot? I spent more time learning to drive. Does that mean I will never have an accident?
True astronauts have many hours of training. I have had more training before being allowed to zip line.
