Congressman Walz has a personal history with the Red Bulls, having retired in 2005 as command sergeant major for the 1-125th Battalion of the 1st Brigade Combat Team: "I served alongside these Soldiers for many years and I could not be more proud of them. They endured their extended deployment with patience and determination and their distinguished service record in Iraq speaks for itself. Today, every Minnesotan should be proud to call the Red Bulls our neighbors and friends."

Waltz served in numerous leadership positions during his National Guard career, records show. He achieved the rank of command sergeant major, briefly serving as the top enlisted soldier for the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery Regiment before his retirement. He ultimately retired at the rank of master sergeant because he did not complete sergeant major training requirements before his service ended, according to the Minnesota National Guard.

Walz enlisted in the Army National Guard in Nebraska in 1981 and retired honorably in 2005 as the top enlisted soldier for 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery Regiment, in the Minnesota National Guard, according to a copy of his records provided by the Minnesota Guard. He reached the rank of command sergeant major and served in that role, but he officially retired as a master sergeant for benefits purposes because he didn't finish a required training course, according to the records and a statement from the Minnesota Guard.

While Walz retired two months before his unit received alert orders to deploy to Iraq, the attacks on Walz’s military record are part of the race from both parties to define the relatively unknown governor after he was tapped Tuesday as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate. Walz’s 24-year military service is one of several facets of his background that appeal to voters that the Harris campaign is trying to reach with his selection – and that Republicans are trying to blunt by painting him as an out-of-touch liberal.

Right-wing media are reviving old smears pushed by political rivals of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz about his retirement from the military, accusing him of “stolen valor” and misleading their audience about the reality of his 24-year service record with the National Guard. Specifically, right-wing media are claiming that Walz resigned and “abandoned” his National Guard unit and resigned after the unit received deployment orders to go to Iraq when in reality, Walz resigned two months before the unit received orders, and Walz likely submitted his retirement papers even earlier.
They won't get away w/what they did to Kerry. This time everyone knows it's BS! All they have are lies and smears!

Whatever, no one is doubting he served 24 years. As always the devil is in the details. Personally I'm much more interested in Walz absolute Love affair with Communist China. Thirty trips to China including a Honeymoon. He has taught Chinese state sponsored courses. The more we learn about Walz the more Socialist/Communist he appears to be.

Nope, his Command Sergeant Major was contingent, and he did not fulfill the contingency.

Army Lt. Col. Kristen Augé, Minnesota National Guard’s State Public Affairs Officer, told Just the News in a statement Wednesday.

"He retired as a master sergeant in 2005 for benefit purposes because he did not complete additional coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy," she added.

According to Army Regulation 600-8-19, a solider who does not complete the requisite coursework results is automatically demoted.

"The Soldier must complete the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Course as a condition of this promotion. Failure to meet the condition will cause demotion per AR 600 – 8 – 19," the regulation reads.

Don't you feel silly now?

Just remind them that Trump is a multi-time draft dodger who has a history of mocking military service and soldiers. The internet is far more available now than in 2004; swift boating BS won't work because people can just look things up on their phone quickly and easily.

"retired in 2005 as command sergeant major." "retired at the rank of master sergeant"

That's the issue, isn't it? That, and his lie that "We can make sure those weapons of war that I carried in war, are only carried in war,”

At the worst, Trump didn't do anything different from what Biden did.

And how do you KNOW that Trump didn't have bone spurs?

Biden received the maximum 5 deferments, then when the last one ran out he magically developed asthma.

We have already been over the Trump situation 8 years ago it isnt new.

The Walz matter is brand new, so naturally the left goes all whataboutism.

Please post video/audio of Trump doing this. I'd like to see this.

I don't want to read articles of rumors of it, or second had stories and accusations of this, but I want to see video or audio, so I can see and hear it for myself please, otherwise, I will just consider you a useful idiot.

He's literally telling a joke, laughing, smiling and including the words "you see what I did there."

Clearly a joke. Clearly.

The stolen valor was him claiming he carried a gun in war…

We can research the impacts of gun violence. We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, are only carried in war,” Walz, 60, can be heard saying.

Biden can stand next to Trump in the line of draft dodgers.

Yep, a joke meaning, everyone who thinks like you do, now bleevs those rumors to be true, including HIM.

If he didn't, he wouldn't have even made such a crude allusion.

Get a sense of humor, willya?!??

One can quibble over this but what is clear is that he did serve in the position but never achieved the rank officially.

So it sounds like he filled a position that was vacant as he probably was the ranking NCO in the unit or the one selected to fill the position by the higher authority. Yes there are rules to make it official and it sounds like he never completed the paperwork or requirements needed to be promoted to that rank and thus hurts his retirement as he retired at a lower rank. It wasn't official according to the rules. Thus he retired at the next lowest rank that he had achieved officially.

Still he probably was the ranking NCO in his unit and performed the duties of a vacant position at the next rank.

You might say he did the job but did not get the benefits or the rank needed to officially retire at that rank.

Still if he occupied the position, then I would give him the credit. The retirement paperwork is not going to reflect the position he was occupying. It would be in his performance reports.

It seems a little strange but maybe he wanted to retire and was not worried about achieving it officially.

Sometime you get tired and just want out. Thus giving up things and benefits that you would have achieved if you stayed.
