Bernie Sanders, The Bum Who Wants Your Money

His family managed to send him to the University of Chicago. Despite a prestigious degree, however, Sanders failed to earn a living, even as an adult. It took him 40 years to collect his first steady paycheck — and it was a government check.

“I never had any money my entire life,” Sanders told Vermont public TV in 1985, after settling into his first real job as mayor of Burlington.

Sanders spent most of his life as an angry radical and agitator who never accomplished much of anything. And yet now he thinks he deserves the power to run your life and your finances — “We will raise taxes;” he confirmed Monday, “yes, we will.”

One of his first jobs was registering people for food stamps, and it was all downhill from there.

Sanders took his first bride to live in a maple sugar shack with a dirt floor, and she soon left him. Penniless, he went on unemployment. Then he had a child out of wedlock. Desperate, he tried carpentry but could barely sink a nail. “He was a shi**y carpenter,” a friend told Politico Magazine. “His carpentry was not going to support him, and didn’t.”

Then he tried his hand freelancing for leftist rags, writing about “masturbation and rape” and other crudities for $50 a story. He drove around in a rusted-out, Bondo-covered VW bug with no working windshield wipers. Friends said he was “always poor” and his “electricity was turned off a lot.” They described him as a slob who kept a messy apartment — and this is what his friends had to say about him.

The only thing he was good at was talking … non-stop … about socialism and how the rich were ripping everybody off. “The whole quality of life in America is based on greed,” the bitter layabout said. “I believe in the redistribution of wealth in this nation.”

So he tried politics, starting his own socialist party. Four times he ran for Vermont public office, and four times he lost — badly. He never attracted more than single-digit support — even in the People’s Republic of Vermont. In his 1971 bid for U.S. Senate, the local press said the 30-year-old “Sanders describes himself as a carpenter who has worked with ‘disturbed children.’ ” In other words, a real winner.

Well, Bernie certainly has an interesting past - but I don't think America is quite ready for his socialist utopia.

Bernie Sanders is definitely not a Democrat. He was Liberty Union aka socialist, then changed to Independent and only recently changed to Democrat to run on this ticket.

Socialism
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."Winston Churchill

So Salon is suddenly "right-wing"???

Did you even stop to think that maybe some of the LIBERALS are finally catching on???

you hit the nail on the head. The only people voting for HiLIARy are old women, people who have no desire to get off of the gov;t dole, and nepotists who want some kind of govt payback.

Bernie Sanders would get creamed in a National Election by Mickey Mouse. This country is center, it always has been, it always will be. It will not elect far left or far right candidates. Sanders is sooo far left he might as well be on Mars. This county would never elect a dyed in the wool socialist, who is campaigning on expanding Federal Government spending another 40%, and free college tuition. This when we're already 19 trillion in red ink.

This is what election night would look like if Sanders were the nominee. Just move the blue over to New Hampshire & Vermont and color the rest of this country RED.

A vote for Bernie Sanders is a vote for Donald Trump

Sanders is not a 'bum,' his proposals are made in good faith, although naïve and unrealistic.

And it's just as naïve to believe Sanders would 'change' anything about Washington or National politics.

Any sort of meaningful change can come only from the very local level, not from the top down.

I never knew you were a economic moderate Lakhota. The truth is most of the first world has universal healthcare, free college and has a basic safety net. What the republicans want to do is what is wrong and we shouldn't be attacking bernie.
Bernie's childhood doesn't change the fact he's right and rubio and kasich are wrong.

Probably why they can't even beat Donald Trump.

And trump is beating them just among Republican in all Republican primaries. That means Republicans don't even like rubio or kasich so how do they expect the American people to?

Well, it certainly sounds like he WAS a bum for at least the first 40 years of his life. He still looks and sounds like a bum to me.
