Come on Republicans, would you let your Daughter marry this guy?

Right.

I've never heard of "sexually explicit" sex education until today. Sounds like the word "explicit" is rightwing code word. That questionaire to palin was from a rightwing newspaper.

I doubt there's any schools that show pornography to teenagers, as part of any credible sex ed program.

Sarah Palen explicity said "yes" if she favors abstinence until marriage sex ed, and she oppossed free condoms and clinics for teenagers.

ya--they won't tell you what explicit sex ed is cause it's a secret code word .
NO ONE IS PLANNING ON TELLING ANYONE THAT THEY CAN'T HAVE A LEGAL ABORTION
It's 100% PURE SPIN

Look the mere fact that she is on record supporting "abstinence until marriage" education, is a joke.

Who the fuck stays abstinent until they are MARRIED? Hardly anyone.

Its totally dishonest to teach that to kids.

The way you teach kids is to be open and honest about sex. You can discourage sexual intercourse for teenagers, but you better be fucking honest about it and not give them some fairytale about waiting until marriage. IT AIN'T TRUTHFUL AND IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. At least give them the straight facts, make sure they understand how to effectively use contraceptives, how to practice sexual responsibility, and don't make it hard for them to obtain condoms.

You can discourage sexual intercourse for teenagers,

THAT IS TEACHING ABSTNENCE !! :eusa_wall:

I doubt anyone does that in a school sex ed class.

i've heard of the explicit banana demonstration and i've also heard of creepy male teachers explaining to 13 year old girls about blow jobs as part of sex ed class...people are rightfully concerned about what is appropriate and what they consider to be too explicit.

for political reasons you can take sarah palin's words and twist them to make her out to be some sort of radical religious prude, or you can do some research and find out the truth. i have found that she was against explicit sex ed class but supports more appropriate sex ed class along side advocating for abstinence, not "abstinence only" as everyone keeps saying.

Being abstinent until marriage is a personal choice of an infintesimally small proportion of americans.

Saying that you support abstinence until marriage education is a joke and its dishonest.

If you cons don't want to be honest about sex with your kids, I don't care. Teaching it as public policy is dishonest and its a joke.

I would want kids to have the honest facts about sex, and the proper and effective use of contraception. And I don't want cons making it difficult for kids to have condoms and honest facts about sex.

ok, found this article....

This is what I found so far...and yes, it does seem like some code word....of the Right wing :)

Explicit Sex Education Is Opposed by Most Parents in Survey - New York Times

Explicit Sex Education Is Opposed by Most Parents in Survey
By DIANA JEAN SCHEMO
Most parents want schools to teach their children the ABC's of sex education but disapprove of the more explicit guidance commonly used in sex-education classes, according to a survey released here today by a coalition of conservative groups.

The survey found that while most parents approved of their children being taught about using condoms and contraceptives to avoid pregnancy and disease, they did not want them being taught about masturbation, sexual fantasies and homosexuality and did not want middle schools' teaching children how to unroll condoms, all subjects in the sex education guidelines.

Parents were evenly divided on teaching youngsters about the biology of reproduction, and a majority approved of schools teaching adolescents ''how to use condoms and other contraceptives and how to negotiate their use.''

Sponsors of the poll described the findings as a repudiation of earlier polls indicating that a heavy majority of parents supported comprehensive sex education.

''When you ask parents in a vague euphemistic way about comprehensive sex education, they will respond one way,'' said Peter Brandt, director of issue response at Focus on the Family, one of the groups that sponsored the poll. ''As we get more specific in terms of what children are actually taught, though, parents are more opposed.''

Advocates of comprehensive sex education attacked the survey, saying it quoted the guidelines as if they were a curriculum, rather than suggestions that school districts typically adapt to local conditions.

The guidelines were developed in 1991 by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, the American Medical Association and other organizations, and were updated in 1995.

''If you were going to approach it this way, you would want to ask about the things that are predominantly taught like puberty and human growth and development,'' said Tamara Kreinen, president of the sexuality council. ''Obviously, they polled for what they thought was most shocking.''

The survey comes as advocates of comprehensive sex education and advocates of abstinence only square off in anticipation of Congressional debates on how much money to give the abstinence programs. The programs, which are supported by President Bush, promote abstinence as the only sure way to prevent pregnancy and disease. They mention condoms and contraception only in the context of their potential for failure.

Comprehensive sex education teaches that while abstinence is preferable, young people need information about sex and contraception.

The guidelines also describe homosexuality, cohabitation and conflicts between religion and sexuality in neutral terms.

Today's survey was released by a consortium of conservative Christian groups, including the Christian Coalition of American, Focus on the Family, Concerned Women of America and the National Abstinence Clearinghouse.

The survey, by Zogby International, polled 1,245 adults, most of them with school-age children. The coalition said an unidentified private donor financed the poll.

Correction: February 19, 2003, Wednesday An article on Thursday about parental attitudes toward sex education referred incorrectly to one sponsor of the survey, the National Abstinence Clearinghouse. It is a secular organization, not a Christian one.

Yeah, I've heard that, too, from right wing nut jobs but not from a credible source.

How can she be against something that doesn't exist? I'm against serving dead puppies for school lunch, so I guess that means someone actually does that in an American school, right?

Cmon----if premartial sex is inevitable why even discourage it ? You want your kid to have a condom -----buy a thousand of them and pass them on !!

Premartial sex can apply to people who are over the age of 18 and not married too folks. :eusa_whistle:

You apparently have little experience with teenagers.

Teenagers can smell dishonesty and hypocrisy from a mile a way.

If some adult Con is standing in front of a sex ed class, lecturing them to be abstinent until marriage the kids aren't going to be fooled. They'll know there's a 99.9999% chance that teacher wasn't abstinent until marriage. And I'll bet a weeks salary that Sarah Palin wasn't abstinent until marriage.

Kids are smart enough to know dishonesty and hypocrisy when they see it.

Its the most dishonest form of education I can imagine.

Nobody I know in my life was lectured by publically employed teachers about being abstinent until marriage. Because it would have been a lie.

Kids need to be taught actual facts: that sexual intercourse can have some bad consequences and can fuck up their lives. But, an honest adult would also tell them about how to effectively and consistently practice contraception.

I have raised a son to be 19 years old ,thank you very much so don't presume me to be naive.

an amazing paragraph---nice how you excluded that
sexual intercourse can have some bad consequences and can fuck up their lives.
from coming from an
honest adult

"I've heard...."

That's not very convincing.

I took sex ed in school, and there wasn't a whiff of pornography it it.

None of the teenagers I currently know, are being taught blow job techniques in school.

In a nation of 300 million people, is it possible some whacked out sex ed teacher goes over the line? Yeah, its possible.

I didn't leave it out, dumbass---I quoted the WHOLE PARAGRAPH in my post !

forgive me, sir heckler...

you simply separated them out,

Except, it's not intercourse that screws up their lives... it's UNPROTECTED intercourse.

They'll have sex either way. Teaching them absinence ONLY is an absurd failure and yet another reason the rabid religious right needs to stay out of things.

If people have a problem with public school and want their relligious beliefs taught, I have the utmost respect for that... regardless of religion. But I'd say the same thing to Jews who tried to have prayers in public school or preach kashrit.

Unlike you, I don't apply different rules to different religions...

And ALL relgions need to stay away from government.

Thank you. It's good to see an honest adult on the thread.

Human sexuality is not something to be dishonest about. In the realm of public education, its an absolute lie and fraud to lecture kids to practice abstinence until marriage. Its highly doubtful Sarah Palin or the teachers doing the lecturing were abstinent until marriage. And kids know it, and they laugh about it after the "class".
