Let's just revise the Articles of Confederation a bit and go back to them.

That was the charge given to the delegates that made up what became the Constitutional Convention.

Yes, it was. But Alexander Hamilton and James Madison got their statist wish.

kevinkennedy is absolutely correct. Hamilton and Madison murdered state sovereignity by empowering Congress (federal supremacy) and the Supreme Court (original jurisdiction of all matters constitutional) to subordinate the states to the national government.

Hamilton and Madison did no such thing. That's what Lincoln did, Hamilton and Madison simply created a stronger federal government.
